This review is from: The Moon Inside (Newton's baby contemporary poetry series) (Paperback)
Daigon is a poet and editor who has been writing for years, and her craft sparkles and resonates in a way that is uniquely her own. Whether she is writing about the passions of growing old, unearthing family memories of the past, or embracing the unknown lives of the future, Daigon's poems have the breadth and scope of age--but moreso, they speak of wisdom, acceptance, celebration and compassion. "To sing faithful to the flesh/the heart's percussion/the naked sprawl of days/ a song as old as innocence" is exactly what Daigon does, whether the melody is about the earth, history, war, family, or the Siberian custom of a bride washing her husband's feet and having to drink the water on their wedding day. Ruth Daigon's "The Moon Inside" shines with mysterious depths and rhythms. Like the moon, it illuminates the cycles of birth and death, past and future, tying them together and "crosscutting the years" in a wholly experienced and deeply felt present. We should all age as gracefully and sing the praises of time with such graceful poetic pitch. A Bravissimo performance by an exceptional poet in our midst.
