An earlier version of this book was called "Easy Camping" and it is just that, great cabins and simple lodgings for those times when you want to get outdoors, but can't muster the energy for a full-on camping trip. All the locations we've tried have been great and the rating system is clear and accurate. I highly recommend this book!

After realizing there are really no web sites that contain information about lists of lakes in a particular area in California, this is exactly what I was looking for.

With this book I was able to narrow down which lakes are open for use in the Bay Area, near the area where I live. I was able to plot out about 20 lakes in my area that allow use of inflatable boats. Awesome! Although some lakes I had to call to double check their rules on inflatables, if not stated in the book. It's probably best to call first anyways because of all this mussel madness.

The format of the book is simple and straight forward. It goes by regions in california, and any particular lake can be found in the index in the back of the book which is nice. The rating system is also a nice touch.

Another source, which was almost identical in providing great information on local lakes, is called Recreational Lakes of California 14th Edition.
