I love this book. My husband and I camped before we had kids. Then we moved to Northern CA with two small children. As a Mom of two small kids I am looking for pretty specific things. This books is soooo detailed and it has all kinds of information including, if there are showers, laundry, flush, pit or vault toilets,easy hikes, hikes in the area, whether it is good for kids or not, weather, scenic beauty and more. I'm sure that the author has been to all these campgrounds as he really gives you a detailed description of the landscape of each one and what to expect. I don't want to spend the few vacations we have on a bad campground because I haven't been there. He even rates what campgrounds are the best for a family destination, fishing, hikes with views, scenic, boat-in, white water rafting and waterskiing. Every campground is carefully mapped by region. This really is an incredible book. I couldn't plan a camping vacation without it!

As an overview, you must credit the Moon series of travel/camping books; they are thorough and detailed in their analysis of places and surrounding environments. The descriptions are clear, effective and substantial enough to give one a good sense of the places and help guide one toward choose campsites more in line with the experience I want to have. The campgrounds are described very well and in enough detail that I feel more confident choosing good places to stay.
