Book Description

September 27, 2005
Every day in her busy Wisconsin beauty salon, Eve's clients trust her with their hair and their hearts. Unattached and not unhappy about it, she chugs along through life, fuelled by coffee, gossip, and the daily round of split-end crises and dye disasters - until long-time client Ruby proposes something completely wild. Maybe it's the perm fumes, but she wants Eve to drop everything and move with her to a rambling, dilapidated cottage way up north at the lake. What's even crazier is that Eve agrees. The lure of escaping their ordinary lives for total freedom is too tempting to ignore, although neither one of them expects it to come with a barn full of cobwebs, an eccentric cast of local characters, and a brand-new business to run. The difference is, bare feet, good food - not to mention the time to make it - and the serene beauty of the lake in their front yard make facing each new challenge a lot more fun. If life is what you make of it, Eve and Ruby are bound and determined to make it fabulous...

More About the Author

While running a salon in NE Minneapolis, I began to notice a trend in my clients. Many of them (all beautiful, of course) were in their thirties, forties and beyond, had a successful career, tons of great friends and were happily SINGLE. Thank you very much. I realized there is very little out there in the way of literature that honors this genre and that began my novel writing. Besides, when anyone would sit down in my salon-chair it became--the confessional!
Now, I live on an 80 acre, organic farm in NE Wisconsin. Together my partner and I produce the nation's first pumpkin seed oil; www.hayriver.net, we grow a vast amount of our own food and we're about to move into our new home. Not too long ago, our old farm house burned to the ground. I have got more material to use in my writing than I can imagine. So, off to do just that---stay tuned for my new series coming soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars great read!, November 13, 2005
This review is from: Moon Over Madeline Island (Paperback)
If you are looking for a book to get lost in and make the time fly by, here is one of the best. Somehow Gilbertson manages to bring the reader into a reality that is filled with a deep and easy friendship between two happy and strong, yet believably complex women, and into a risk taking adventure that you wish was your own to live. All the while convincing you that this much happiness is something that is all over the place. Eve and Ruby are not all sweetness and light, but neither are they hindered by angst or ill will. A huge treasure of a home, with secret passageways and many dusty and interesting rooms on Madeline Island, has fallen into their laps. The adventure goes on, always in the company of a family of choice where deep tolerance, humor and risk taking are the way people live their lives. The book is like a fulfilled dream. Highly recommended for a great time. Clever and fast paced.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Read, April 3, 2006

A solid book in the vein of the "ya-ya sisterhood." If only were as brave as the women in this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Moon over Madeline Island, April 6, 2006

This book is a lot of fun and one of the more upbeat books I have read in some time. We need more upbeat in this era when sad, morose heart-rending stories are all the rage.
