ENJOY HOT LOVE AND ROMANCE IN THE PHILIPPINES

Archeology Intern Heather Kelly gains the opportunity of her academic life and is assigned to work with world famous Robert Kraig, a modern Indiana Jones, doing excavations all over the world. His current work deals with Jose Rizal, the independence hero of the Philippines. She is finishing up her doctoral dissertation on the Spanish American War and needs the information about Rizal, which if all goes well, will likely result in her attaining her doctorate and a lucrative teaching position in California. She doesn't expect Robert to be so unmarried, masculine and fit, and finds him extremely attractive.

Robert is madly in love with a Filipina, Edie Santos, who owns and manages a respected, successful modeling agency and lands contracts in Davao City and Los Angeles. She is off on her assignments for weeks at a time, and Robert is lonely for Edie and starts drinking too much. Robert's colleagues warn him that Heather is a sex predator and playgirl.

While Edie is away, Heather makes her move on Robert after a professional presentation at the Manila Historical Preservation Office. Edie hears through the grapevine that Robert and Heather had sex, but Robert isn't convinced because of his cloudy recollection after too much wine. Then again, it depends on how you describe sex. Will Edie forgive his transgression?

About the Author

Joe Race has been a law enforcement officer for 45 years, and now lives on the beautiful island of Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, USA with his wife and three teenagers. He has retired from the wild and dangerous streets of Los Angeles, and is now spending his quality time as an adjunct college professor, writer and beachologist. This is his third novel. Joe made several trips to the Philippines in researching this story. He found that the Filipino people were friendly and helpful, and most spoke English, as they studied it as their second language in elementary school. Joe added, They're very proud of their hero of independence, Jose Rizal, and they have every right to be. He was a forerunner of Gandhi, Tagore, Sun, King and others in the human struggles for liberty and civil rights. Joe also found that the people of the Philippines, like Rizal, were great romanticists and very appreciative of love in the hot tropics. Viva hacer el amor!

5.0 out of 5 stars TOUCHING LOVE STORY IN THE TROPICS, August 17, 2009
This review is from: Moon Over Manila: A Contemporary Romance (Paperback)
World famous Robert Kraig, a modern day Indiana Jones, falls in love with Edie, a gorgeous Filipina model. Of course, there has to be an antagonist who is an American intern named Heather, who manages to work at screwing up the serious romance between Robert and Edie. Race tells a great story interjected with Fort Santiago, Jose Rizal and the southern PI city of Davao, eventually ending in Los Angeles, with a conclusion as touching as any soap opera. This one should be brought to the big screen. The read alone will require a box of tissues. Good story with wonderful, believable characters, actually very nice people who find themselves in that dangerous lovers' triangle. Well worth a few dollars or pesos. I sent it to a friend in Las Vegas who enjoys romantic stories in other lands.

This review is from: Moon Over Manila: A Contemporary Romance (Paperback)
This book has it all: intrigue, history, romance, interesting characters and a killer story line. Plus, it's just fun to read. Race does his homework and weaves fact into a compelling fictional story. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE, April 13, 2009
This review is from: Moon Over Manila: A Contemporary Romance (Paperback)
The title holds true to form involving a contemporary romance about an American man (Robert) and a Filipina model (Edie) at Fort Santiago, Manila. It wouldn't be a good love opera without the intern Heather trying to stake her claim on Robert. Besides being a sexy, hot love story, there's plenty of research that went into the novel about the Filipino independence hero Jose Rizal (and his many women)and the early colonial days of the Philippines; and of course, the conflict between the USA and the Philippines after the Spanish-American War. I normally don't buy romance books, but my lady friend put me onto this one; and I've ended buying two of "Moon" for other friends. Lots of interesting sub-characters also. Good story.
