The Moon and the Planets:A Catalog of Astronomical Anomalies, August 9, 2004
This review is from: The Moon and the Planets: A Catalog of Astronomical Anomalies (Hardcover)
" The Moon and the Planets: A Catalog of Astronomical Anomalies" compiled by William R. Corliss is a wonderful catalog for reference of astronomical anomalies.
If you have a telescope or are just curious and you keep up what NASA is doing next and as to why things happen as they do in our galaxy this is the book for you. This book was published in 1985 and the information is getting a little dated with the current NASA probes on both Mars and around Saturn, with more information coming from probes launched to Mercury and Venus. The value of this catalog is to list what is NOT known or well-known concerning the planets and the Moon.
This source book is a compilation of all known, in the English speaking liturature, anomalies and uses a mnemonic cataloging system for them from many high-quality observations to only a few observations of some doubtful quality. These are included to see if there realy is an anomaly. I found this book to be interesting to read and it further made me aware of why things are as the way they are and of others observations of the planets around us.
This book is for the seroius astronomer and makes for an interesting reference to observe phenomina that you wouldn't be necessarily finding in common literature. I gave this book a solid 4 stars as there are new things being discovered in our galaxy daily that are not in this book and it is in need of a serious updating.
