5.0 out of 5 stars AN ALMOST PERFECT LP, March 28, 2002
By
ALAIN ROBERT (ST-HUBERT,QUÉBEC) - See all my reviews
Also available in a 2LPS on 1 cd along with DANNY BOY(ANDY's first LP with COLUMBIA)MOONRIVER is simply an offer that ANDY WILLIAMS fans can resist. If you forget MARIA(never a favorite of mine),this comes close as being a perfect LP.All of these songs are perfectly suited for his voice that can be compared to a melting hot chocolate stimulating your mouth after an afternoon of skying with friends. One of the most satisfying aspect in the decline of rock,is that singer with the talent of ANDY get the chance to belt it out all over again. This will make you want to hear more from him...

5.0 out of 5 stars Second Columbia album was huge success, January 13, 2005
After some earlier successes, Andy Williams joined Columbia in 1962 and recorded two albums for them that year - Danny Boy and Moon River, which helped to set his career going in the direction he wanted it.

Following encouraging sales of Andy's first Columbia album (Danny boy), his second, Moon River, brought together a collection of movie themes and made the top three in the American album charts. Curiously, the title track was never released as a single although it became his signature song. (In the UK, the song became a number one hit for Danny Williams - no relation).

Apart from the title track, the album contains Andy's excellent interpretations of such classics as A summer place, Maria, Never on Sunday, As time goes by, It might as well be spring, Three coins in the fountain and others.

With the Danny Boy and Moon River albums, Andy left nobody in any doubt that he was a ballad singer with no interest in recording up-tempo songs. That he was able to build a career as a balladeer despite changing musical fashions is a measure of the man's talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Good Times, February 15, 2004

ANTHONY SAVINO (ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL United States) - See all my reviews
Outstanding! Andy Williams performs like nobody else can. It forever reminds me of the "good old days" and how life, movies and music went hand-in-hand. I treasure it dearly and guarantee it will be one of your most prized possessions. I've listened to it for 40 years and I'm still overwhelmed by the beautiful songs and the wonderful memories they bring to life.
It is simply too beautiful for words.

I really LOVE this recording! It's got the most INCREDIBLE versions of some amazing classics! I purchased it specifically for the cut of "A Summer Place" to be used as pre-show music in a production I was directing and producing in Hollywood, but every cut on it is truly wonderful! I also received it in record time, allowing us to use it for the show! Thanks, Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Andy Williams goes Hollywood!, December 9, 2004
By

My LP copy of this album is a hand-me-down. It was also a hand-me-down when my late grandparents owned it. My uncle got it at a garage sale with many other record albums in late 1979. Here,Andy Williams, although he never had a film career, goes Hollywood with twelve awesome movie themes from films theatrically released in the 40's,50's and 60's. This album was originally released in 1962 in stereo and mono. My copy was stereo(just how I like it). I first heard LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING on the GREASE movie soundtrack. It was recorded by an unknown artist(there were unknown voices but no words). A SUMMER PLACE was a hit in 1960 for Percy Faith. MARIA is so beautiful. I also love the "la-la-la-la's" on NEVER ON SUNDAY. The title track,co-written by Johnny Mercer and the late Henry Mancini is from 1961's BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY's starring the late Audrey Hepburn. All the other songs are good. Like THE ANDY WILLIAMS CHRISTMAS ALBUM,Williams sports a tuxedo in the cover photo.

An amazing record from an amazing singer. Moon River is one of my all time favorites easily rivaling Frank Sinatra and other greats. Don't hesitate to pick up this record!

This has a special meaning for my wife and I as the title song was a song we picked as our song in 1964. It and the other recording are everything I expected.

I didn't want to get just Moon River, so I checked out the rest of the songs on the CD. I'm so glad I did. I have/am enjoying all of these old classics. You just don't hear music like this anymore. I fully recomend anyone who likes the classics, purchase this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Andy Williams Album, June 27, 2010

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Moon River (Audio CD)
These songs showcase Andy Williams voice better than any I've ever heard, other than his Christmas Album. Andy is up there with Perry Como and Dean Martin, voice wise, and these are the songs that will leave you saying 'they don't make singers like that any more' and other things to cause your kids to roll their eyes and shake their head at you...but it's true, they don't.
