4.0 out of 5 stars Deserves better than 1 star!
If anyone has been to Nantucket, this book paints some beautiful images of the island. There could have been more character development, but if you're looking for a light summer read, this book won't disappoint you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Might be the worst book I read in 2008!
I hate to weigh in with such a negative reveiw but I really disliked Moon Shell Beach by Nancy Thayer. Quite frankly I don't even know where to begin to answer why I felt this way, but I will try.

I hate to weigh in with such a negative reveiw but I really disliked Moon Shell Beach by Nancy Thayer. Quite frankly I don't even know where to begin to answer why I felt this way, but I will try.

To begin with I felt the story line was implausible and improbable. Yes, I know friends fall in love with each other's boyfriends but to think how two women fell for undeserving Jesse and then to have him run off was just silly. And then the two main characters were so poorly portrayed that I never felt as though I knew them. In addition, I felt as though the ending was pulled out of thin air and was supposed to leave us thinking happy ending? I don't think so.

This is not the first Nancy Thayer book I read but it might be the last. Axctually I wonder if Nancy Thayer was author of this book altogether. I read this book on the basis of her being the author and now I wonder what happened to an author I really enjoyed. Finally, the subject of two friends becoming lifelong friends and role of the beach in their friendship has been done over and over and much better than this, I might add. For some real good reading try Summer Sisters by Judy Blume or Beach Girls by Luanne Rice. Or better yet walk along the beach with a good friend or find one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Below Expectations, June 29, 2008
I wasn't impressed with this book. The story wasn't anything wildly interesting or original. The book drags along. It seemed more like a "Lifetime" movie.

This book wasn't worth buying. Check it out at the library for free.

3.0 out of 5 stars light and airy, June 11, 2008
Sometimes one needs a book like this, one that requires minimal thinking and not too much concentration. Somewhat predictable but sometimes that is okay too. A little twist at the end left me wondering....

Also, I love to read anything that takes place on Nantucket, one of my favorite places to visit.

1.0 out of 5 stars a little dated, June 8, 2009
I was surprised to see a new release, maybe in the hopes of trying to repackage it for Nantucket-goers for the summer holiday. If you like Nantucket (and I do), it has a few references to local spots, but all in all the story is dated and a little boring. The two main characters seem like a product of the 50's. Just not that interesting. Even the setting can't make up for the weak plot. Nancy, write another novel, freshen it up, we need newer hip storylines. Nantucket is full of beauty and mystery...this has neither.

4.0 out of 5 stars Throughly Enjoyed this book, August 31, 2011
This review is from: Moon Shell Beach: A Novel (Paperback)
This light-hearted book was a perfect Summer read. Set in a location that I personally believe to be Summer paradise, Nantucket, Thayer shows us that you can go home again, depsite all that changes in your life. The relationship painted between Lexi and Claire as children in one which most females can relate to, whether its a sister or in this case a friend growing up there is always one person to turn to. As their relationship evolved and they began to grow apart, my heart ached, because I like many others had experienced a similar situation. Her book also captured the enevitable crush Claire had on Lexi's older brother. Without giving too much away I really enjoyed that the book came full circle.
As a whole this book was light while at the same time it dealt with a variety of heavy subjects, including infidelity, friendship, financial issues and family issues. The ending left a bit to be implied but if you pick up her next novel Heatwave you can find out what was in store for Lexi

3.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced beach read, July 13, 2011
This review is from: Moon Shell Beach: A Novel (Paperback)
Clare and Lexi have been friends since childhood. Clare always one to play house while Lexi dreamed of great adventures. Both girls go to college together but when back home their first summer, Clare and Lexi grow apart. Clare is dating Jessie Gray and Lexi realizes that she won't be able to return to college. Lexi meets a rich and dazzling older man and accepts his proposal and spends years in a loveless marriage but getting the traveling she has yearned for. Now, 10 years later, Lexi returns to Nantuckut fresh from her divorce and ready to start fresh. Lexi wonders if she will be able to repair the damages she has done to her relationships she abandoned all those years ago.

This is an absorbing, fast paced beach read. It will remind readers what is important in life. I like that it primarily focuses on the friendships of the women and that romantic relationships are more secondary. This is not often the case in these summer beach reads. The Nantucket backdrop provides the reader with the feeling of being on a warm sunny island with the rich descriptions of all the natural wonder Nantucket has to offer. A good story of love, friendship, and forgiveness.
