When you compare this guide to Frommer's Peru 4th edition you will find the best value is Frommer's. In Frommer's Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail section alone take up 100 pages and the information is excellent. Besides giving you less, the photos in this guide are seriously sub par; they are grainy and all in b&w. Then there is the small print, which I found difficult to read, especially in low light or on a moving bus. Thus, the only thing that commends this guide is its price, and, when you consider all that you spend to get to Peru and to see the ruins, then go for it and splurge - spend the extra $7 and get either Frommer's or Lonely Planet. Both are great guides and worth the chump change. Also consider reading "White Rock" by Hugh Thomson, especially if you are trekking the ruins. Happy Trails.

A good resource, but don't trust the prices,

I just got back from a vacation to Peru and found this book very helpful. It contained a lot of useful information for getting to the various Incan sites in the Sacred Valley as well as interesting facts about the sites themselves, and the small size made it ideal for carrying on day trips and treks. We also found some GREAT budget hostel options through this book. The downside was the consistently inaccurate prices it listed for activities etc. For example, it recommends a restaurant in Cusco with entrees supposedly from $6-$12 - when we arrived at the restaurant the prices on the menu were $50 or higher. This kind of thing happened several times. In all I found it to be a useful guide, but I wouldn't rely on the prices it quotes.
