One of my favorite things about series or trilogy's is that the story continues on and you get to hear more about what is happening with the characters that you fall in love with! The Moon and the Tide was everything I wanted in a sequel; Derrolyn continues the story of Marina and her quest to figure out her family history, the mermaids' life and her relationship with Ethan. This story is jammed packed with more unique twists, adventures and dangers that I felt like I couldn't read it fast enough!

To say that this book was as good as the first book is not enough, I felt it was better just because the first book laid down the characters and the story line and book two is bringing the characters more alive and the story more adventurous. Just like in the first book there are secrets that unfold and new mystery that is added which makes The Moon and the Tide more intense!

The best thing to love in this book, at least for me, is the romantic development between Marina and Ethan. Their relationship starts off sweet and innocent in book one but in book two it really feels like it matures a lot more as they learn more about each other's personalities and deal with stress! I love that Derrolyn doesn't add another guy to the mix to make this like every other YA novel that has a love triangle! That just gets old! And it stays clean-thank you Derrolyn!!

The new characters that are added make the story even better also! There is the professional surfer Kimo that is woven through the story line a couple of times and I really enjoyed his Hawaiian accent! There is also the bully Shayla in book one that is more in book two now and it really is fun to see this character develop in to someone lovable!

I love hearing more about the mermaids and their unique history and culture and I just really felt like I was right there watching the story on the big screen in front of me. The description to details about everything going makes this story come alive!

If you loved the first book, Between the Land and the Sea, then you have to devour The Moon and the Tide. There is so much to love about it and I'm not sure I am even able to give you enough of a glimpse to satisfy you because I could just go on and on and about all I loved!

I received a copy of this book to read and review from the author. My review is not biased by the fact that I was given this book. I HONESTLY read and review any book whether bought or given to me. If I did not like the book I would definitely not give a rave review or recommend it.

THE MOON AND THE TIDE is a really fun sequel to the first book in Marina's Tales, BETWEEN THE LAND AND THE SEA. The same characters pick up their lives shortly after the first book ends. We still get to read all about Marina and Ethan and their relationship, but this book has a few thrilling highlights thrown in: for example, Marina takes a trip to Greece to visit with her father...she flies to visit him alone and disaster strikes while she is there! On a helicopter ride with her father, the helicopter crashes into the ocean. Marina is able to transform into a mermaid and rescue those on board, but not before photographers grab evidence of her mermaid's tail. Within days, these pictures are all over the internet - Marina and the secret of her mermaid sisters are no longer safe! Marina cuts her trip short, goes back home, and tries to stay safe with Ethan. She still has a hard time fighting the urge to be in the ocean, as close to the marine life and the mermaids as possible...and she does this with her surfing. She becomes riskier and more dangerous as has begins to take to the water at night so she can surf as privately as possible. Before long disaster strikes again - Marina and her mermaid sister Lorelai are kidnapped! It's a race to get Lorelai back into the ocean before she dies...

THE MOON AND THE TIDE definitely has more of a thriller component to the first book and it is rather exciting. My heart was beating fast in more than one instance!

Loved it! (: October 4, 2011

"Come back to me" I whispered , "You were meant to be mine."~Marina

The Moon and the Tide brings us back to the same characters, places and romance we loved from Between the Land and the Sea. This time there are evil plans set in motion for Marina..someone is coming after her..and they'll stop and nothing to get her..
Marina thinks she finally has her life set, she may have found out she is half mermaid...but that's all behind her right? After some crazy events, and finally facing the mermaid concil and telling them she denies her birthright of imortality and being a full mermaid..Marina is given a certain amount of moons till she will permentaly be denied her birth right of being a full mermaid and immortal..Marina knows she will never choose to be a mermaid, but with problems in her relationship with Ethan stirring things up, and her constant want to be in the water..being a mermaid is starting to look more and more appealing..and as if all of this isn't enough on Marina's plate..she also has someone watching her every move..and what they have planned for her and the other mermaids is unthinkable..
This was an amazing installement in the Marina's Tales series! I feel everything kicked up in this addition, everything was put up a notch, the romance, the mystery, and the action While everything was being notched up Derrolyn also added a whole new aspect to her series, thrill. The Moon and the Tide had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was gonna happen next, and if the characters I had learned to love were all going to be okay in the end of it all.
Marina's Tales is the first mermaid series I have read, and it just keeps getting better and better! The Moon and the Tide has left me dying for book three in this incredibly romantic and edge of my seat series.
