Move over Sim City...here's Moon Tycoon!,
By Big Time Gamer (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Moon Tycoon (CD-ROM)
I've been waiting for a Space Sim game for years. The wait is over and its been worth it. Let me just point out the aspects that make it so worthy. Gorgeous graphics. It really looks like you're on the Moon, flying around a space colony! You really have to play the game to understand. COMPLETE 3D camera freedom, beautiful Earth-rises, and just wait until night time and your colony night-lights turn on! I've spent hours just looking at the screen, drooling at the sights. Balance of gameplay. The game itself plays perfectly for a kid, or the expert gamer, providing lots of layers of depth to suit your needs. Build homes, communications and utilitie as the foundation, then grow into a mining, production, research or tourist colony. The designers of this game have really taken a fresh approach to the Sim theme, taking it in whole new directions. Cotnrols. The designers of this game have made a truly marvelous control system. You pick up the game in seconds, and the camera control fits like a glove. Other companies should take a look at the contol system here for pointers. Concept and Story. Usually a major flaw in most games, the story behind Moon Tycoon is both dramatic and very possible in the near future. Its nice to see that some game designers are actually putting some substance in a game. Plus, the script has loads of humor and more references to sci-fi movies than you can imagine. Lots more goodies. Two seperate soundtracks: either ambient or techno really let you immerse yourself into the game, 3D sound effects, and the coolest disasters ever in a game(you can bombard your colony with the "Armageddon" asteroid if you want!) And finally...the price! I'm simply amazed by the 19.99 price tag. This game could easily go for 39.99 and still sell strong. I Highly Recommend!!!!

very nice sim game!,

Moon Tycoon looked like an awesome game when I carefully examined the box. I bought it and it is cool! I do admit the fully 3D interface is tricky to get used to esp. after games like Simcity and Roller Coaster Tycoon. But with a little time I liked it. The graphics are really good with a highly textured lunar surface and fairly well rendered buildings. The map is quite big allowing for a large colony with plenty of room for expansion. You first need to build a control center then "inflatable homes" for your colonists. You also construct oxygen plants and power production plants. Everything is connected via either above, or below ground tunnels. As you progress thru the game more buildings become available due to "research", a common feature of games such as Starcraft and Roller Coaster Tycoon. You make money thru mining and exporting as well as tourists. You can trade goods with Earth or aliens (yes aliens). The game takes place in 2021 and Earth is in crisis as it runs out of natural resources. The game is refreshingly original and I recommend it to any sim fan! Check it out!

A 15-year-old Moon Tycoon,
By Moriel (Anchorage, AK USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Moon Tycoon (CD-ROM)
I like the premise of this game--build a colony on the moon or an asteroid and make it thrive--and the grapics are, for the most part, great. My main problem is getting enough money to buy all this expensive stuff. My moral and attraction are almost always in the minus numbers, but I like playing the game. (I never get any good Special Requests, either, but once Yoda visited my sister's colony.) I wish I could actually go inside and walk around, and sometimes there's nothing to do while you wait for your money to build up (in my case, until one of the advisors says, "Warehouse storage is at full capacity. You must sell some inventory, or build more storage," and then I sell off 600 tons or so of uranium, helium 3, and electronics). Sometimes graphics can get a little choppy, but it's not bad. I've had a little trouble with the campaigns, though. Campaign 1 was, for the most part, really, really easy. I got through "Outbreak" in Campaign 2 okay but now I'm stuck in "Tyranny." Maybe I'll get through it eventually, though. Bottom line: if you like sim games, or if you like outer space, get Moon Tycoon.
