Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Fans of the Eels, Okkervil River, The Robot Ate Me and Pedro the Lion will find much to love in the debut release by Throw Me the Statue. Expansive indie folk that pulses with computerized rhythms, fuzzy guitars, thrift shop synthesizers and electronic flourishes throughout, Moonbeams is delightfully eclectic. The bedroom recordings of Scott Reitherman, TMTS lyrics deal far more openly with sexuality than one usually finds in indie-rock; the songs are wistful and seem to come from actual experiences rather than abject longing and overactive imaginations. Reitherman's rich and slightly quavery falsetto enhances the narratives within his story songs. Moonbeams is among the great, quiet, discoveries of 2008. --Mike McGonigal

5.0 out of 5 stars great new indie band, December 2, 2008
By Brent Reitherman (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
One of the best new finds of the year on the indie rock scene. I bought this album at the beginning of the summer and I'm really happy that Amazon is giving it props by ranking it #16 on albums of the year.

I really dig this CD for its diversity. It's got some great lo-fi pop songs that are catchy but never reptitive or overly simplistic. It also has some great rock tunes where they really get it going on the guitar. The tracks are polished enough that you don't have to be an indie rock nerd to enjoy it on a first listening but its also layered enough that you will find yourself giving it several listening sessions and still picking out a new favorite lyric or subtle melody. 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Personal Favorite of 2008, December 31, 2008
This is easily my favorite album of 2008. Catchy rhythms and beautiful melodies all around. Well composed and arranged with a unique sound. The vocalist has a raw and unrefined voice that completely grows on you.

My favorite tracks are "About To Walk" and "Groundswell". They rock. "Young Sensualists" is a gem with one of the most gorgeous opening vocal melodies ever pretty much. "Conquering Kids" is another slower paced song with amazing ambiance and sullenness.
