This is a very nice book in which Moonbear explores how light and objects make shadows. [Thus story and science combined - wahoo!]

In this book, Moonbear is going fishing and finds himself vexed and perplexed by his shadow. At first it just gets in the way by scaring the fish; but at the end of the day his shadow ends up 'catching a fish' (shadow fish) just like he does.

In between, Moonbear tries various experiments and learns a great deal about light and shadows. You can't for example nail a shadow to the ground, nor bury it, nor can you get away from them by climbing a large rock if the sun is behind you. You can go inside your house, but chances are that when you come out again, that you will find your shadow, or vice-versa.

There is a nice sequence of pictures that depicts how the movement of the sun makes the shadows of stationary objects move.

Four Stars. Good story. Good read-aloud which is no doubt why Frank Asch has been on the my daughters entering -kindergarten and -first grade reading lists. With older children you can talk about shadows and the nature of visual optics (light).

Amazon has this book listed as good for babies to preschoolers; but I think older children would enjoy it too. [My daughter and son are 6 and 4 years of age respectively; and they enjoyed it.]

Once again we are pleased with another Frank Asch book. The Moonbear Series is one of our favorite series for it's simplicity yet thought provoking stories. Moonbear tries to rid himself of his shadow in all sorts of ways and as the story continues, there is a point to show how the sun's position is changing in the sky. As a toddler, they will enjoy the story, as children grow, they can understand more and more about the nature of shadows.

Cute story about this popular picture book character (Moonbear) and his shadow. The illustrations are simple but they draw the reader in and the text is fine for story time and for youngsters beginning to read. A real bargain, this Moonbear adventure will delight young children and it won't break the bank!

I love this story about moonbear and his shadow. It is a great story for kindergartners. I am reading this during our night/day unit. We will make our own shadows to hang on the wall (trace friends' outlines). Fun!

This is my favorite book when I was a child. I never got the chance to buy it at the book fair, so it was such a blessing to stubble upon it and purchase it. I read it and it brought back so many memories of my kindergarten days. Can't wait to share it with my future kid.

Another clever book written by Frank Asch. My 6 y/o really enjoyed this book and requested more Moonbear books. This book is cute, funny, and very engaging. It's got just the right amount of words per page which doesn't bore a child. Recommend!!

my grandson who is 5 loved it...he even tried to "outrun his own shadow". I am trying to find all of Frand Asch's books..they are simple but wise, in a world where simplicity is not appreciated any longer.
