The Most Magical Book!,
By Lauren McConner (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Moonfire (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the best book that I have ever read by Linda Lael Miiler. I simply loved everything about this novel, especially the two characters Reeve McKenna and Maggie Chamberlin. Reeve was simply beautiful with his rugged good looks and charming wit. Everything about him exuded power and sensuality and while I read this book I found myself wishing for a man like him more than once. His beloved,Maggie,is just as wonderful. She was the type of person who refused to let anything get her down. Fiercely independent at heart, she proved to be a perfect match for Reeve who was also very independent. Take my word for it, these two characters will take you,the reader, on a wild adventure of outrageous love and laughter. I promise that you will not be disappointed with this book. So please go to Amazon and buy it. (Please!)

As always, getting into a new book is slow going...when I started this book, I didn't think I was going to be able to really "get into it" after the first few pages....WOW was I wrong! This book is so fully of passion, drama, humor...I couldn't put it down. You will fall in love with the characters and hate to see this book end...you MUST buy this and read it!!

I'm the type of person who hardly ever gets into books, but this one was truly amazing! It only took 2 days for me to read it, since I barely put it down. When it ended I was very upset. I could have read it forever. I can't wait to get started on Angelfire!!

Tons of sex, but romance? Not quite,
By Gemma "bookworm" (Alberta, Canada) - See all my reviews

After being dissapointed by "Taming Charlotte", I didn't really expect to like this.
At first, I did. The author writes about the life of indentured servants in Australia during the late 1800's, which is a setting that rarely gets explored. And she was doing a good job of it. The historical detail was lush and vivid, and wowen into the background in such a way that it never distracted from the plot. Miller has a wonderful, flowing writing style that is easy and enjoyable to read. In fact, it's so absorbing that you often forget that you're even reading a book, because the words paint a picture in your mind so well. My problem was with the romance. I find that Linda Lael Miller's books are either almost devoid of sex scenes (except for maybe a sweet wedding night scene), or stuffed with torrid ones. This was one of the latter. I'm not a prude, but I need more than just lust between the characters for me to cheer them on. There were constantly fighting, and then all of the sudden he has his head between her legs. Huh? I was left wondering 'where in the heck did that come from?' If there had been some tender scenes or caring feelings between them before this point in the story, I might have been able to get past this. Instead, it felt rushed and contrived. I can't believe that one second she hates him, then the next she's letting him do the most intimate things to her. It just doesn't make any sense. I want romance in my romance novel, not just sex. Sex without commitment or even affection is not romantic. I will continue to read Miller's books, as I've enjoyed some of her work in the past ("A Springwater Christmas", "Two Brothers"), but only if I don't have to pay for her books. Too many of them are erotica, and not romance.

I agree 100% with "bookworm". This first part of this book was great but once the "love?" scenes began that's all there was, over, and over and over again. The story ended and the erotica took over. I am not opposed to steamy sex scenes, but this was just the same description time after time. It actually became a little boring and I couldn't understand why our heroine was so impressed. Kept waiting to get back to the story but it never happened. Compared to other books by Miller, this one was very disappointing.

I just really enjoy Linda Lael Miller books. I love the West, the history with a little romance added for spice.
