Product Description

Moonflower plants are one of the easiest vines to grow. They are very strong and will grow very fast. These beauties will bloom through the night and have soft triangle shaped thorns (will not hurt to the touch) on the stems. These Lavender Moonflowers are a bit of a rare find.

I soaked these guys overnight for approximately 12 hours before planting. I didn't nick any of the seeds; however, I planted these mixed with another set of Moonflower seeds (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ZGZSIY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00) which have all sprouted and are about 3" tall now. I planted all the seeds at the same time, in the same containers. Since the coloring on these lavender seeds was a fair brown while the color of the other set of seeds was a light tan, I noticed that none of the lavender type have sprouted (seed sticks partially to leaves as they emerge).

It's been close to a month now, and none have emerged. I give it two stars for the awesome color, but unless another buyer shares his/her success with these seeds I wouldn't recommend them.

UPDATE (17-JUN-12): Two of the 10 seeds planted have (finally) sprouted (for that I added another star).

ok, I've grown the white variety but, that this variety until this time. I had a 50% germination rate. I germinate in a zip-lock bag between a couple of wet paper towels, I store the bag in a warm area. I check the bag daily and plant the sprouts. The seeds that sprouted have done very well. I've gotten a lot of seed pots form the plants and I'm very happy with them. These are smaller than the white variety and I wouldn't plant them in the same area again. The little blooms got lost in all the other vines.

I covered these in a bowl with boiling water & left them overnight. Planted them along a sunny wall the 1st of May. Now they are beautiful 6-8 foot vines with dainty lavender trumpets that open around 4 pm.

Clipped the very edges with nail clippers and soaked in warm water for 12 hours, planted in peat soil, put under a grow light, and they all sprouted! I had no experience with moon flower seeds and didn't know how tough they were, so I don't recommend using anything other than nail clippers to nick them or you will lose a finger. These seeds arrived super quick!

I bought these along with the Night Bloomer variety. I presoaked and nicked each seed of both varieties the same way. Many Night Blloomers grew but not one Lavender did. The seeds seemed to be softer than those of the Night Bloomers. Very disappointed since have always had success with the N.B.'s. But plan to try again next year and merely soak in wet paper towels as one reviewer suggested.

I was so looking forward to these beautiful flowers but no matter what I did, and I'm not a novice, the doggone things would NOT sprout!
