One of my favorite LPs from the '70s - what a joy it is to see this getting the digital treatment. If you like the sound of the title track you'll love this CD. Here we get all of 1976's "Moonlight Feels Right" LP plus five bonus tracks culled from the 1977 follow up "Rock and Roll Rocket" including Starbuck's second hit "Everybody Be Dancin'".

Starbuck's sound is immediately recognizable due to Blackman's unique voice, the emphasis on synths, and Bo Wagner's marimba and vibes. Honestly how many pop/rock groups have you ever known to work vibes into their act? And it works.

At times funky, at times... well, quirky, this release is sure to please 70s music nuts. One of those guilty pleasures to be sure.

The only complaint - and it's a small one - clocking in at only 50 minutes WITH the bonus tracks, the remaining five tracks from "Rock and Roll Rocket" could easily have been included here. ("Benny Bought The Big One", "Don't You Know How To Love A Lady", and an alternate take on "Rock & Roll Rocket" are available on "Backtracks" for completests along with "One of These Mornings" which is extended version of the "Little Bird Reprise".)

Been checking in with amazon .com and my local music store for years hoping to find an old copy of this or a rerelease. This collection of songs is too, too awesome and I have missed it immensely. Bruce Blackmans vocal style and delivery are very unique and the rest of the band clicks and grooves like there's no end!! I was lucky enough to see these guys on T.V. twice when this album was on the charts and they blew my socks off.Bo Hobbs is so exceptional on percussion and xylophone too! Thanx Amazon.com..gonna order my copy right now!!!

This was quirky, feel good funky pop fun for the mid 70's.Yet, as quirky as Starbuck sounded to some it was very hip for the time and very distinct despite the use of 70's disco-like synthesizers (this group was anything but disco). The best track will always be Moonlight Feels Right. What other band of the 70's could groove to a little bit of white soul funk using the calypso sounding marimba ? Each track is highly memorable and full of melody.Lead singer Bruce Blackman had a vocal signature style very unique in a cool and befitting 70's sorta way... Not a single downer or trash track on here. This is a great cd to travel back in time to 1976 !

I am one of those guys who listened to FM alot during the 70's. This album I bought originally because of the 45's that were released. I usually bought the album if the 45's sides were good. This album is one of my favorites. I have it on 8track, on cassette and on vinyl plus the 45's. The cd is crisp and clean and a bargain with the bonus tracks. So put on your headphones and listen to the sounds of the night "Moonlight DOES Feel Right"

I can't tell you how delighted I am over the re-release of this album! Almost everyone thirty-five and over remembers their smash hit "Moonlight Feels Right," but even those who love this song are not aware of just how good the rest of this album is. I especially love "I Got to Know," "So the Night Goes," and "Lash LaRue." But this is one of those rare albums which somehow seamlessly blends one song into the next to create a sound and an atmosphere that is not only unique to itself, but is greater than the sum of its parts. Starbuck never even approached the quality of "Moonlight Feels Right" in its subsequent albums, although some of the better cuts are included as extra tracks in this CD. Its melodious, easy-listening tunes and self-deprecating humor somehow evokes the charm of the South and its sultry summer nights. If you loved the single "Moonlight Feels Right," you will love the album just as much. It is a minor classic, and one of my favorites from the seventies.

A few weeks ago I heard "Moonlight Feels Right" on the radio. It sounded like a funny new song. I didn't know it was from the seventies! ;-) Born in 1969, I must have missed this song at the time.

Now I have the CD at home. I really like it. The sound is just as I hoped it would be.

This was a definitive first-time issue of Starbuck's first album - when it was released in 2000. It also included 5 songs from their second album. (it's now out of print and selling at a premium)

The Cherry Red / Broadside label has just issued both albums complete on one CD, with 2 great non-LP bonus tracks from the same period. The mastering and artwork/liner notes are excellent. The title is "Moonlight Feels Right & Rock n' Roll Rocket" (2009). (note: Bruce Blackman's "Official Starbuck" CD, with some jarring remixes and other alterations, borrowed the artwork from that new 2-fer)

It's funny but I'd always remembered the song "moonlight feels right" as one of the hazy memories from my highschool years. Unfortunately, I'd never bothered to buy their album or hear their other songs. My parents have lived next door to Bruce Blackman(who they say is a cool guy, though they don't use the word cool) for years, so I guess it's time to finally check out this album. Based on the reviews I've seen here, plus liking the aforementioned song, I'm sure I'm gonna like it.

John, that was Bo Wagner on percussion, marimba, etc., not Bo Hobbs.

I am now puzzled, having read that the band is from Alabama. Being a Baltimorean, when I was growing up, my friends and I assumed that the band was from Maryland.

The song is clearly about a trip from Baltimore to Ocean City, Maryland with further references to crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, the traditional route from "Western Shore" natives seeking the beaches of Ocean City, etc via US 50. Starbuck's website makes no mention of the motivation of the lyrics... :(
