An absolute JEWEL !,

Cheryl Bentyne of Manhattan Transfer-fame seems to have lost her heart to Japan - that is at least where her latest two CDs were released. On this treasure containing 11 trax with such classics as Moonlight Serenade, Cara'van and How High The Moon she is accompanied on and off by Mark Kibble from Take 6 and Roger Treece from Bobby McFerrin's Voicestra - as special guest: Kevin Mahogany. Smooth laid-back relaxed singing as Bentyne does so brilliantly - don't miss it !

You really have to read the liner notes to understand the reason behind this disc. And I refuse to give that away.
With that said, I encourage anyone into 'Vocal' music to buy this. It is something that you will listen to again and again. Her rendition of 'Moonlight Serenade' alone is worth the cost of the disc. 'How High The Moon' and 'Caravan' shine as well. The other tracks are great. But you have to understand that this is a concept album. The explanation is in the liner notes and is really amazing. But it... you won't be sorry. |
