Book Description

Sonnet Books June 1, 1999

"Everything Miranda Jarrett does is magic," raved Affaire de Coeur, and each novel in her award-winning Fairbourne family saga sparkles with her special touch. Now, she returns to the seafaring world of colonial Massachusetts to spin a breathtaking new tale -- a voyage of the heart where love is as tempest-tossed as the mighty Atlantic itself.

As proprietor of the most fashionable shop in Boston, Amelie Lacroix knows all about creating the elegant style and glittering gowns her wealthy clients adore. But Amelie herself has no time for flirtatious games with eligible men -- until a magical wedding feast, where dashing sea captain Zach Fairbourne entices her into the garden for a moonlit kiss. Without warning, practical Amelie finds herself dreaming of love and romance in Zach's arms.

Zach Fairbourne has been enchanted by women the world over, and in love with none. He thought Amelie would be a passing fancy, a pretty miss to dally with for a few sweet days while ashore. But the rich, deep passion of their kiss sets his heart reeling with dreams of a home, a family, and one woman to cherish for the rest of his life. And when the high sea call him back, Zach must test the waters of true love to find if hearts from two different worlds can somehow build a lasting bond to treasure.

The Literary Times A marvelous author...One of romantic fiction's finest gems. -- Review

About the Author

With more than two million copies in print worldwide, Miranda Jarrett's bestselling books are enjoyed by readers from Singapore to Poland to Australia. Her critically acclaimed novels of colonial America featuring the Sparhawk family have now been joined by her newest series for Pocket Books, featuring the equally memorable Fairbournes of Cape Cod: The Captain's Bride, Cranberry Point, Wishing, and Moonlight.

A childhood visit to a museum in Deerfield, Massachusetts, and the hair-raising sight of an Abenaki tomahawk still thrust in the middle of a hapless English settler's door, convinced her of the magic of American history (once, that is, the nightmares wore off). But she also loves star-crossed lovers and happy endings, so she considers herself wonderfiilly fortunate to have found a career that lets her combine them all -- even if it has also made her family regulars at the local pizzeria.

Miranda is a graduate of Brown University with a degree in art history. A two-time RITA Award finalist, she is the recipient of many awards and honors for her writing, including the prestigious Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award for Best North American Historical Romance. She loves to hear from readers, and can be reached at P.O. Box 1102, Paoli, PA 19301-0792, or by e-mail at MJarrett2l@aol.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story about falling in love, June 2, 1999
This review is from: Moonlight (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
How to put my reaction into words! I loved this book, because it was full of the tension and fear and giddy delight of falling in love. Zach and Amelie connect on so many levels that it was obvious to me, the reader, that they were meant to be together, yet the obstacles they had to surmount were real and high. No dreaded Big Misunderstanding here--just the complications that falling in love brings to one's life.

The writing was lovely, lyrical without being fussy; it put me right in the story and let me understand how Zach and Amelie felt. Both characters are smart people and neither wastes much time on foolish pride.

The only flaw I could find in the book was that it had to end....

3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly enjoyable, December 11, 2004

This review is from: Moonlight (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
I did like the story, but felt that Amelie's reasons for holding back didn't hold much water at all, so that made her character less believable for me. Things also felt a little rushed towards the end. I thought more space could have been devoted to the rescue attempt and its implications.
I've read some of Jarrett's other books and would generally recommend them as light reading. They aren't keepers for me though.
