2.0 out of 5 stars Buy For The List, Not the Content September 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What sold me on this book was the fact that it gathered about 90 companies that bought or marketed writers work into one listing. The content of the book itself is minimal and all of it can be learned in less than an hour of surfing the web for articles and blogs about writing online. Every time a website was mentioned (aside from the list of companies) there was a screen shot of the site. Unessacary fluff.

You could compile this list of companies yourself, but I was okay with spending a few bucks on it and saving myself some time.

Don't buy this for the content of the book. If you want to save time looking up companies to sell your work, it may be worth the money to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for college students needing extra cash. September 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As someone who is trying to work her way through college, I found this book very helpful for a number of reasons. One, it provided a concise overview of many specific resources for earning money as a writer. Two, it also includes several important tips on syntax and grammar. It's been a while since English 101, and I found that it was a great refresher that I can refer back to while I'm writing. Three, the book's reasonable price fit well with my budget, and the fact that within a day I had earned quite a bit more money than the cost of the book, it essentially paid for itself!

The Moonlighter's Guide is a great introduction to online writing. Although I only write online to supplement my income while in school, Brentford directs her readers to other resources about online writing for people wanting to make online writing a career!

1.0 out of 5 stars WRITERS BEWARE October 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Writers should be aware that this book primarily sells textbroker.com to writers as a great way to make money. I checked out their website and discovered in the terms and conditions (legal contract) that all writing is contracted "for hire". This means that writers give up their copyright on all the work they do for textbroker.com. Textbroker.com owns all writing done for them. Writers are paid a small one-time fee for their original content which textbroker.com can then sell and resell over and over. This is a fabulous deal for them, but a terrible deal for writers. There are much more honest and better books to read and routes to take to write and sell your work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect cure for the unemployed blues September 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
With the economy in the dumps many of us are looking for ways to make money at home. I'm one of those people trying to make a buck and pay the bills. I came across Connie Brentford's book in one of my Facebook groups. It is well worth the $2.95 I spent to download it to my Kindle Cloud Reader in a few minutes. I just got a round registering with Textbroker which is one of the many sites she showcases. Connie covers several tips on what it takes to Moonlight as a writer including writing tools like Google Docs and Open Office which are free. Great grammar tips are also included and she explains the different way writers can get paid. Good stuff for those to line their pockets or have extra spending money. My only wish is that the next edition will have hyperlinks to take me to the websites as I read. But this book gives me hope that can weather the economic storm.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good introduction on online writing July 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This very short ebook provides a good introduction to online writing, and contains many helpful tips to get you started.

In my case, I have lots of experience as a writer, but very little experience writing for online markets. So I found the beginning, which gives a quick overview of grammatical and spelling mistakes, to be pretty elementary and not very helpful. The later parts on the business of online writing were more useful to me.

The book is very short, and you can read it all in a single sitting. As a result, I found it often scratched the surface of topics without give me the more in-depth information I wanted.

The author stresses the importance of submitting work without typos and other errors, but she makes a number of them herself. She carefully explains the differences between "loose" and "lose," and "its" and "it's," but goes on to confuse "lay" and "lie," and to misspell the name of a company twice on one page.

Despite these fairly minor flaws, there's some good information here. A very good list provides an overview of online markets, and she explains the differences between being paid up front and collecting residual payments.

For its price, this ebook is very good value for anyone just starting out.

1.0 out of 5 stars Where's the immediate income? April 14, 2012
By Maddie
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book makes the promise of "immediate income" but falls short of the mark. The list of companies that hire freelance writers can be found for free on the Internet. Many of the content mills listed have gone under or haven't had any work in a long time. You can't make your weekly production goals if the work isn't available. Very few of the content mills paid well to begin with, so good luck earning a living wage. Affiliate marketing and residuals won't provide immediate income either. You need thousands of page views just to earn pennies. As for the listings of academic writing websites, why would anybody help people CHEAT their way through school? Do you really want people getting through school by purchasing term papers online and turning it in as their own original work? These cheaters will eventually be competing for jobs or providing professional services to the public without the knowledge to back their claim of being educated.
