What started out as a book on online infopreneurship (Internet mkting) branched off unnecessarily into online retailing, et. al.,

This book was OK. It covers a very broad range of topics regarding how to use the Web (Internet) to make money. Basically there are five sections to the book (5 topics): (1) online infopreneur, (2) eBay retailer, (3) affiliate marketer, (4) Yahoo! Stores retailer, and (5) blogger. I've reviewed other books on all each of these topics. And I've been pretty clear in my reviews that topics 2 through 5 do not provide much benefit for the cost when it comes to making money. There are books written about each. And this book just does not do any of them justice in the short space given them. This book has an introduction and conclusion along with 26 chapters: 0. Introduction 1. Creating "Digitally Delivered Information Products" 2. What is information marketing? 3. Top 7 information topics 4. How to figure out what information to sell 5. Researching the online marketplace 6. Evaluating your "brilliant" idea 7. Creating your information product 8. Licensing 9. Joint ventures 10. Public domain 11. Getting your site's foundation built 12. Creating your hot offer 13. Setting up your site 14. Headlines that sell 15. The eBay Machine 16. Finding the right products and setting up business 17. The `flood" 18. Your listing 19. What makes a successful seller? 20. The world of affiliate programs 21. Finding an affiliate program and working it 22. The Yahoo! Stores phenomenon 23. Establishing your niche 24. Why blogging? 25. How to set up a blog 26. Making money with blogs 26a. Conclusion My favorite part of the book was Section 1 (chapters 1-14) regarding online infopreneurship. It covered 122 pages of text. And I thought much of it was pretty good. But there could have been so much more. Another book that did a "less than" job on the subject which I just reviewed earlier today is "The Official How to Get Rich Guide to Information Marketing" (ISBN: 1599181401). See my review for that book to see other books that one should read if they want to supplement the material in this book presented in Section 1. This book suffers from trying to cover too many topics in not enough pages. And when I picked the book up I had hoped that the author or authors would have given some insight into where the profits really exist when moonlighting on the Internet. Instead, all we got from these authors is a list of options that one can select from when they want to moonlight. Blogging is not something that generally is done to make money online. It is something to do to build credibility for yourself as an author, consultant, infopreneur, or public speaker. Or it can be used to direct online traffic toward your business' Web site. But blogging in and of itself is not something to be done to make money online. See my review for Blog Smog (ISBN: 078521576X) and read the book for a pretty good take on blogging. 3 stars!

I have great respect for Mr. Silver and I aspire to quit my day job one day! I loved the personal success stories - that lets me know I can do it also. I was disappointed in that there are TONS of links in the book. I spent time bookmarking the ones I wanted to go to after reading the book. When I went to the MOTI website they are ALL gone!! What gives? There was also comments in the book of an accompanying CD - that was not included in my book (which I bought here on Amazon). If you think this book is a hand holding expedition in making quick money on the internet this is not the book for you. If you are looking for ideas to help you make money on the internet this could be your book.

Dumpster Diving On The Internet,
This review is from: Moonlighting on the Internet: 5 World-Class Experts Reveal Proven Ways to Make Extra Cash (Paperback)
After reading all the other reviews, I have a better insight into how the Yanik Silvers do so well. Do I believe the guy has made a fortune selling crap on the Internet? Absolutely! Do I believe vultures get fat feasting from the corpses on a recent battlefield? Absolutely! Do I believe all the "real world examples" this smirking con artist delivers up in his book, "Moonlighting On The Internet?" Can't you fools see that he is smirking at you behind his hand? Is it an accident that, when he is describing how to steal public domain material to publish and sell under your own name, he chooses PT Barnum? I think not. Do you really believe the one about the little old lady who discovered a public domain book published 100 years ago about how to get rich and after trying to give it away to all her friends, she ended up selling it on the Internet because that was essentially easier and she could then sail away on her yacht and keep track of her swollen bank accounts via wireless Internet access?
Silver repeatedly reminds you of his inability to create websites. Have you seen any of his websites? I have. They are slick or should I say oily, greasy. To this group of persons and obviously there are a lot like him, nothing is beyond the pale. People are prey; meant to be preyed upon and the slicker you are at it, the better you feel about yourself, I suppose. I found myself unable to believe any of the hokum in his book no matter how much or how loudly his huckster cohorts swear to it. The central message of this book is how to profit from the gullibilities of all the people who surf the Internet looking for some way to provide themselves and their families a better lifestyle, a more financially secure lifestyle. You find something that has no intrinsic value and you carefully dress it up with words and then you entice people who don't need it to buy it. Then, you chuckle as you watch your bank accounts swell. Don't worry. You'll never have to look any of the dupes in the eye because it's the Internet, baby. Far too many Yanik Silvers already in the world.

Yanik was one of the first guys that got me started with internet marketing, and when he wrote a book I was all over it. The reason why is because when you search for info on the internet at this time you are inundated with massive amount of information from every angle you can think of with a very high price tag.
This book is not intended to make you rich overnight, and Yanik states that clearly, but, following these principles, you can get a very quick start without the confusion. I suggest getting your pen and paper ready and take notes as you read this book w/ready to take action steps. That's what I did and I've gotten a BIG jump with public domain materials that I seriously never thought I would do. But now that I see how easy it is I'm almost finished with a project in record time. That is what this book is all about - getting started easily and quickly, nothing complicated - and it's perfect for someone who needs ONE place to focus on getting their information from. Sitting in front of your computer and searching for quality information in one place is next to impossible nowadays, it's information overload out there. The stories sprinkled throughout the book w/success stories will motivate and educate you at the same time. People who have experience w/internet marketing are taking this book for granted if they say they expected more detailed information. I think we often forget just how clueless we all were when we first started in this biz. The only part that did not interest me: Well, I'm not the biggest fan of the yahoo stores concept but it may very well suit others. Throughout the book, I like how Yanik takes you step by step in a simple manner with finding your niche, testing it, getting the web site set up, where to do it, reliable resources, etc. The informaiton out there today is pretty damn complicated, and will confuse the heck out of anyone who wants to get started, i.e. "Moonlighting" on the internet. Still, the best thing here is that I shut down my computer, and took notes as I read, getting my informaiton from one, rleiable resource and then taking action with it. I have tightened up my internet marketing biz with the information I have taken and I'm getting immediate results by applying the information from the affilliate marketing, joint ventures and some really cool projects with public domain. I am reccomending this book as a must for anyone who is getting started and needs a solid "How to" plan. If you're not making $ 5 k a month then you need to read this book as well. It is definitely the way to go for beginning your journey into the wonderful world of internet marketing as well as for those who are experienced and need some small tips and tricks that can easily add up to another $ 5 k a month as well as a new project at the least. You can't complain for the price in relation to all the info in the book either, gotta love that! I'll be passing this book on to my friend who sells jewelery on line but can't figure out the details of getting traffic, using e bay, blogs and affilliates to help pump up his web site. Good books are meant for passing on, not sitting on book shelves!

Not the best source of information,

This review is from: Moonlighting on the Internet: 5 World-Class Experts Reveal Proven Ways to Make Extra Cash (Paperback)
I bought this book about a year ago. Although I was familiar with the Internet, I had no clue about how to make money online. The book provided a broad, if shallow perspective of several ways to make money online. Since then, I have read several other books on the subject and I have learned a lot. If I compare those books with Moonlighting on the Internet, I will say that if you already have an idea about how to make money online, do not buy this book. Not only there are books with much more in depth information, but there is also free, very high quality information posted online, if you can find this. Yanik freely admit not to know much about the technical aspect in his book and still being successful. But unless you are willing to pay someone to do it, you will need to know at least some of the technical aspect too. The book makes it all look very easy and fast. It is not. It takes knowledge and dedication. The information in the book is basic and not nearly enough to make it all work.
After seeing all the rave reviews for the book, my impression is that those reviewers must be beginners in the ebusiness world. What became evident to me is that Yanik is a great motivator (salesman). He seems to know all the tricks for getting people energized and convinced of buying. For instance, the book offers a bonus in the form of online videos, supposedly worth $350. In sales there is something called perceived value. Bonuses add to perceived value and motivate people to buy. After I reviewed the online bonus, I was terrible disappointed. Those videos are worthless! But they served their function, and motivated me to buy the book. In my opinion, unless you do not know anything about making money online and want a general idea about how it is done, do not waste your money on this book. You can find much better sources of information.

Yanik's book was given to me as a gift and I had the pleasure of reading it over the holidays. It's straight from the horse's mouth as they say. You'll learn how to make money on the Internet from someone(s)who'd already done it!
The book is written for those of us who want to earn extra money "moonlighting" on the Internet but I think there's enough other good information in there for more advanced e-commerce students. There are lots of actionable things any "ordinary Joe" can do right away and if you're like me you'll dog-ear the pages and write notes in the margins - a good reference tool. The only thing I could suggest to improve it, would be to include some kind of step-by-step summary for getting started. Lots of great information so what a value that would have been! The two things I like best are: 1.I thought the "real life" moonllighting stories were particularly helpful, especially since their experiences and products were so varied. 2.I really like the common theme running through all of them however. That is: stop thinking about it and do it! I couldn't agree more. I think readers will take comfort knowing that you don't have to be a computer programmer to make money online and you don't have to reinvent the wheel. With all of the self-proclaimed Internet marketing gurus out there it's refreshing to get solid advice from one of the world's leading experts. You can take this one to the bank.

This review is from: Moonlighting on the Internet: 5 World-Class Experts Reveal Proven Ways to Make Extra Cash (Paperback)
After reading The Four Hour Workweek and learning all kinds of ways of automating the less exciting aspects of my life, I was ready for a more practical look at how else I might bring in some income without exchanging hours for dollars in the usual way.
I have about five pages of inspiring and actionable ideas and the concrete steps to take to make them happen, thanks to this book. Even if you think you don't know anything that others would pay to learn, pick up this book, because Silver offers concrete strategies for creating an information product even with no previous knowledge or skill. My Mom can be self-deprecating, but even she got inspired about all that she has to share with others when we used the brainstorming tactics suggested in this book. After you come up with ideas, he shows you how to test those ideas and make them work if they show potential for profit. This is an excellent and helpful book. I'd also recommend Internet Riches by Fox and The Four-Hour Workweek by Ferriss.

Making money online seems like a crazy idea to many people still. When I tell my friends and family that I am a full time Internet Marketer, they look at me like if I am from another planet. Yanik's book is a great tool to explain to people how we make our money online without them thinking that we are lunatics. I've bought a number of copies of this book and whenever someone asks me: So, what do you do for a living? I simply send them or hand them the book! You should see how interested people become in our business after they read the book! (Specially because there's a number of stories of regular people who are pulling at least an extra paycheck online using the internet. (I was thrilled to be featured as one of the examples inside the book) So, yes I thoroughly recommend you to get your hands on this book! Ernesto Verdugo [...]

I was surprised to see the book on the shelf of a local bookstore and armed with a 40% off coupon purchased it immediately. I will say right off that I was also expecting a bit more. I can't say that I found anything new here.
I feel the inclusion of instructions on setting up a site, auction, etc., was somewhat of a waste. I would imagine that most readers would purchase the book to research possible moonlighting ventures. the technical aspects could have been better, and more throughly covered in a separate volume. I also found the number of testimonials to be somewhat distracting. The book also appears to be information repackaged from other works. That's not a bad thing, and I think it could provide some value for those who have little or no knowledge of doing business on the internet. Overall though; I think the author may have tried to hard to sell the possibility, instead of introducing the opportunity.

Just Put The Techniques Into Practice,
This review is from: Moonlighting on the Internet: 5 World-Class Experts Reveal Proven Ways to Make Extra Cash (Paperback)
One of the main reasons I did buy this book is because Yanik Silver's track record for finding effective ways to communicate and sell products online have been nothing short of amazing. But what peeked my interest further was the fact that he has 4 other authors with expertise in different online marketing efforts from Ebay, to Blogging, Affiliate Marketing, and E-Commerce Stores. Each person gives their expert advice on their online specialty, which were made simple and to the point in understanding the basics. They keep everything concise, you don't feel a bump in their discussion throughout each segment that would leave you confused. And what makes it even more great is that I put a couple of these steps in the book to use within minutes and made money just that fast. Just testing it out. But remember these are the basics. Enough information to get you started in the right direction without falling flat on your face. Buy the book. It does answer some questions for beginners and takes them in the right direction. The success stories also explains things in a more direct, crystal clear explanation of how simple some of this stuff is if you just try and continue to learn as you go. The only thing I am a little peeved about is that not all of the Moonlighting bonuses included with this book are completely up yet. Yanik does let you sign on so that you can get your bonuses as soon as they are available, but I thought by buying the book they were already there since you have addresses to where they are suppose to be located. No matter. I signed up and I'll gladly wait, because the advice alone in this book has given me a 1000% profit return. Buy it, put it to use. And keep these experts (especially Yanik Silver) on file. Their advice here is great, and the more deeper expertise they can each give you is in their own respected sites. Enjoy
