4.0 out of 5 stars Celestial Sounds., December 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Moonlore (Audio CD)
I am also quite particular about the kind of cd's that i buy, as they are expensive here in South Africa. But I swollowed hard, dug deep in my pocket and bought this unknown title and took it home.

Well - what can I say. I am listening to it as I write this review and all i can say is that it is Celestial and out of this world. I also love the song "SkyFire", and have an added kinship to it, as the singer has the same name as my Mother.

I never regretted this purchase from the moment I heard the first sounds. A worthy buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Do You Believe In?, September 9, 2003

This review is from: Moonlore (Audio CD)
The Moon in all her majesty is a manifestation of the Goddess.
This music seems to be a tribute to that. It is magickal music just right for meditation, relaxation, and prayertime.
Mostly instrumental, it is very soothing but when you do hear the voices you can almost picture Talisyn reciting the lyrics as he professes his identity.
I play this disc almost every night before bed and say my prayers because I believe this music is a conduit to a higher power.

When I went looking for more music that would stir my inner being, I didn't know what I was getting into when I bought Moonlore. I didn't preview it at the listening station I bought it because I thought the cover looked gothic with the young woman dressed in a long black cape sitting on the rocks with a full moon. I looked kind of spooky and I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. I put it in my CD rom in my computer and was taken back when I heard the music coming from my speakers. I truly recommend this CD for body who wants to be moved.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Come run with me", June 28, 2005
This review is from: Moonlore (Audio CD)
"Llewellyn takes us on a musical adventure tale into history and reconstructs one of the legendary druidistic games that always took place under cover of darkness upon the full moon adjoining Samhain. The "Wild Hunt" was really the first major test for a young druid to test their skills and abilities working with the elements around them. The album is a journey that takes the listener through the trials and tests of a young druid...and into a wonderful romantic world of Celtic imagery and landscapes. MOONLORE combines keyboards with Uilleann Pipes, Whistles, Guitars, Piano, Flutes, Skin drums and atmospheric effects.

The Story :

It is late October and a night called "Hunter's Moon". The young woman looks across the beautiful mountains and lake that glisten before her in the pale rays of the moon. She raises her palms to the moon, takes nine deep breaths filling her body with the moonlight and feels a magnetic surge through her whole being It is time. She must complete her journeying task to The Stones before dawn. There are no directions, many dangers to encounter - physical and non physical - and she must work with the spirits of Wind, Sea, Fire and Stone to win her challenge." (from Llewellyn website.)

I've had it for over a year but just didn't "get it" at first. Now I do. If you love music that is beautiful and soothing, you've found it. If you like a taste of ancient mystery, darkness and depth and spirituality in your music, you'll be even more pleased with Moonlore!

I've always loved the mystique of the moon and this cd is in harmony with that spirit. Moonlore is mostly instrumental but their are some gorgeous, magical lyrics with equally gorgeous and magical vocals on three of the tracks. My favorite tracks are "Echoes of Ancient Stone", "Across the Loch," "Sky Fire" and my very favorite, with the amazing, soft yet strong male vocal that literally sounds like the name of the song--"Chill Wind."

The Chillwind

lead vocal by Llewellyn

I am the wind heard in the moonrise

I am the burning cold of night

I am four voices from every hillside

I am the strength and the might.

I am the chillwind , the midday heat

I bring the famine and the feast

I am the victory , I am defeat

I am the gold from the east.

Overcome your obstacles and...

Soar!

Definitely an interesting CD for your New Age library. Some tracks get a little cheesy at times but overall very good and occasionally transcendental.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, November 30, 2000

When I first saw the album, I didn't know what to make of it. I'm a very fussy CD buyer, so it was a risk buying it without listening to it at all. When I listened to it, I was amazed at how beautiful the music was. The three workings of the Maiden, Mother and Crone were very helpful in meditation (especially the meditations in Maiden, Mother, Crone by DJ Conway) and I love the song Sky Fire. It's very enchanting. My friends who heard the CD loved it too! All in all, it's a very nice piece of work

I LOVE this CD. better than Enya. Better than Deva Premal. I gave a copy to my massage therapist and she has had it playing for a month! I highly recommend this artist.

At first glance this CD appeared to be just another relaxing meditation experience. But something about the cover art drew me in, so I took a chance and bought the CD. Later on when I actually listened to the full tracks I felt a sense of destiny surging within myself. It was although I had been allotted a glimpse into the future and had seen all the different possibilities available to me for my life. It was incredibly awe inspiring!

So to you, teetering on the edge of decision to purchase this item or not, take my advice and do it; you will be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intensely mysterious!, October 1, 2006
This review is from: Moonlore (Audio CD)
In characteristic Llewellyn-style, the music of "Moonlore" is a combination of the relaxing and the epic. It is predominantly instrumental in nature, moderate in tempo and minor in flavor, with a deep intensity and a mystical, magical quality to it that would seem to stem from his involvement with Druidry. Defined by atmospheric keyboards, but incorporating acoustic instruments, percussion and some sung lyrics, these smooth compositions are works of heart and integrity that stretch the boundaries of traditional New Age music and do it quite well. Elements of relaxation music, soundtrack styles and pop blend together into a satisfying trinity. In fact, "Moonlore" is billed as a celebration of the feminine and the Triple Goddess (maiden, mother, crone), and some of the tracks were designed to inspire magical working (I'm not quite sure which ones--probably those entitled "The Mother," "The Crone" and "The Maiden"?) Joining composer and multi-instrumentalist Llewellyn on this album are vocalist Juliana and recorder player Tori Donovan. Ever helpful and with an eye towards education, Llewellyn again includes some relevant bibliographic recommendations in his liner notes: "Dancing with the Juggler" by Carolynn Clare Townsend, "Embracing the Moon" by Yasmine Galenorn, and "To Ride a Silver Broomstick" by Silver RavenWolf. Llewellyn has a number of other albums out, too. For more magical music, try also these similarly mystical and adventurous CDs: "The Merlin Mystery" by Alkaemy and "A Trilogy of Fantasy" by Trammell Starks. Compare with the lively, upbeat pagan music of "Shadows of the Moon" and "Under a Violet Moon" by Blackmore's Night.
