Disc 1 is just the exact same 2002 UK release, with the exact same master, and the exact same bonus material, slapped into a 2CD digipak with a live concert disc.

The audio benchmark for the studio tracks is the '01 Japan mini-sleeve, which has been re-pressed several times. That version has much better clarity than the previous American and European releases.

Several of the live tracks from this 1976 Hammersmith Odeon show have appeared on other Camel releases, most notably "A Live Record". However, it's nice to have them finally assembled on one disc.

By all means, buy this for the live disc, which is excellent. But, if you want to hear the studio tracks in their best presentation, seek out the Japan mini-sleeve.

This is my THIRD CD purchase of this great Camel recording, fourth if you include the original album back in 1976. Yes, I will admit it: I am a Camelaholic. BUT: only of the first four albums plus the Live Record, all of which feature the band's original lineup. After Moonmadness Camel opened up their revolving door of band members, and the band was never the same, never as good as the original. But you get the band at their pinnacle here: their second-best studio recording ( of course their best was Snow Goose ) PLUS a great-sounding recording of an entire concert featuring Andrew Latimer on guitar and flute, Peter Bardens on keyboards, Andy Ward on drums and Doug Ferguson on bass, the last year Doug was with the band. The sound is superb, especially on headphones. Check it out!

Everything digital has an upside. Now so does this gorgeous work by CAMEL from 1976, my second favorite album All-time. This egregiously expensive edition comes from the world class detail freaks on the Island Nation, and I can tell from but one bliss-en that they plan to enjoy this at home themselves.
The single most vital detail for you as a potential customer, is the fact that this disc is an uncompromising, single-layer, SACD format only release. It will NOT play in a CD player or even most DVD/Blu-Ray players except those that specifically support SACD playback. In every regard that Universal-Japan had control over, this is the audiophile extreme that is currently attainable for this, nearly 40 year-old analogue recording. There was no 5.1 remix executed for this product. They DID however arrange with their UK counterparts at DECCA who own the recording, to create a new Direct Stream Digital transfer of the master tape, intended specifically for inclusion herein. And Oh does it Show...
I burst into tears. And isn't that what it's about?
For decades, my most cherished musical possession has been my German vinyl copy of this record, of which I've always had to ration my playbacks to keep the sound quality from degrading. None of the many digital reproductions which have come out over the years have done anything to change that, although the 2009 'Deluxe Edition' included a 2nd disc of Live Camel from the period which was quite cool indeed.
Now, while the two copies have... differences to a small degree, there is a digital hardcopy with the same level of emotional engagement as my 'vinyl from the 70s.' My has it been a long and weary wait. Not to mention expensive...
If you know and love this music, take out that second mortgage. This product will only be in print about 6 months if I'm interpreting the information on the Obi-strip correctly. If you've never heard this music, I envy your position in time.

One of my top 10 favorite classic prog rock albums by one of my favorite artists! ....Now remastered and sounds better than ever!
Must have for prog rock fans. Great live performance worth the acquisition of this Deluxe Edition alone.
