4.0 out of 5 stars great trilogy
I thought the first book in the Moonshae trilogy was terrific, I can't wait to get and read the next two books! I have been reading fantisy trilogy books for over twenty years so I think I qualify to give a review.

3.0 out of 5 stars An avrage read
This was the second fantasy book I ever read (after the Hobbit) and although I never got round to reading the trilogy I think that it's a decent book by itself. The action through out the mid-section of the book is'nt ground breaking but enough to keep you intrested. But the climax is very good. The last battle stretches over a couple of chapters and never lets you down...

I think this is a classic trilogy. Darkwalker on Moonshae was full of entertainment, the last two were slower but neverthless enjoyable.

The action through out the mid-section of the book is'nt ground breaking but enough to keep you intrested. But the climax is very good. The last battle stretches over a couple of chapters and never lets you down where excitment is concerned. You'll enjoy the fight against the blood riders, Im sure.

4.0 out of 5 stars My first Forgotten Realms experience...14 years ago!, July 14, 2000
This review is from: The Moonshae Trilogy: Darkwell/Black Wizards/Darkwalker on Moonshae (Forgotten Realms Fantasy Adventures/Boxed Set) (Paperback)
This set of books rocked my world. I got into fantasy and soon after got my hands on this trilogy. I consumed them in about a week. It is true that the plots are somewhat predictable, especially the whooping the good guys give the bad guys at the end, but the journey to that point is thrilling! The stories and characters carry you along with them into a different world. I was sad when I finished this series. This is a good place to start the Forgotten Realms stuff. "The Icewind Dale Trilogy" is a better place, but this one is awesome. Read it.

3.0 out of 5 stars A world apart from Faerun, May 11, 2000
This review is from: The Moonshae Trilogy: Darkwell/Black Wizards/Darkwalker on Moonshae (Forgotten Realms Fantasy Adventures/Boxed Set) (Paperback)
Along with the Finders Stone Trilogy, this was my first set of FR novels. The characters are rather flat and slightly predictable but the plotline and setting more than make up for it, in my opinion. The Moonshae Islands go back to a time before the traditional pantheon of Realms deities and the history and magic of it all is extremely intriguing - so if lengthier books like "Cormyr" with their more tedious descriptions and feeling of the deep past actually stimulate your mind, then give these books a read. I would like to see more books involving the Moonshaes besides the Moonshae and Druidhome trilogies -- these books are very much a world apart and could exist outside the Realms.

This book is what got me started into the Forgotten Realms series. Great characters, great plot and an awesome cover to boot!

Darkwalker on Moonshea is the first forgotten realms novel. You should read this book if you are to be a durid in AD&D's Forgotten Realms. It has indepth characters: form Tristan the adventuress and irresponsible prince that is face with the future of his kingdom and many more kingdoms to Bhaal the god of murder that Tristant must defeat to save his kindom. This is a very good book I wish I could only read it for the frist time again.

2.0 out of 5 stars The characters are the only redeeming quality..., August 12, 1999

...and even that isn't good enough. Niles is an amateur, and marks himself as such clearly in this series. Predictability, boring descriptions, and poor sentence structure are everywhere in the novels, jarring the reader from their "suspension of disbelief." The characters might have been good, but Niles treats them one-dimensionally. Foreshadowing ineptly reveals the entire plot early, making the only suspense in the book the curiosity of who will be knocked off. The books follow the "small problem / adventure / big problem / dramatic battle of epic proportions with lots of carnage" formula that leaves little room for originality (kind of like the cheesy "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" series). All in all, the books are only worth it if bought for $2 or less used.

The trilogy STINKS!!! The characters were bad, the story line was lame, and how do u kill a dracolich just by touching it with a stick??? The first book was the saving grace of the whole sorry thing. It was 2 1/2 stars, max. Sorry Mr. Niles, but that was the second most sorry trilogy I ever read. First being the Maztica Trilogy.
