This 8 by 11 inch book has a clear plastic protected soft cover. The music is suitable for piano and voice and includes bass amd treble clefs for most selections. The book is spiral bound in order to be easily used on a music stand. Included is music of Turlough O'Carolan, and traditional Irish dance tunes and slow aires. Many of the tunes include harmonised vocal arrangements by Thomas Moore who lived from 1780-1852. The editor of this reprinted edition, musician Ryan Thomson, selected a subset of pieces from an original edition published in 1852. This book includes a "Biographical Sketch of Thomas Moore" and "Prefatory Remarks by Sir John Stevenson, " from the original edition. Thomas Moore wrote original lyrics to older, already existing Irish melodies. In the table of contents are his song titles, followed by the corresponding traditional tune names. Following that is a list of the 8 included instrumental pieces without lyrics.

Has there ever been a melody-maker like Turlough O'Carolan? Here we are 250 or 300 years after his death, dreaming and humming and dancing to his truly gorgeous melodies. This book is an excellent compilation of his work, with all types represented. As a singer, though, I'm always sad that I don't have words to so many of these lovely harp melodies. As a dancer, it's always obvious which ones require the dance -- our feet cannot stay still when those reels start. Very nice book. Highly recommended.
