5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding picture book
My 2-year-old son has loved this book since he got it more than a year ago, and I love it too. The pictures are beautiful and fun to look at on their own, but now we like to count the animals on each page. Looking for the cat hiding on each page is the best part of all.

2.0 out of 5 stars It lacked visual clarity
Maybe I was expecting too much when i purchased this book. The concept is good and the wording is very cute, but the colors and vibrancy are definitely visually confusing to a little child ( my younger daughter of 2.5 ) could not clearly see the shape of the the numbers. The felt design print somehow lacks sufficient definition and the page looked to me like it was more...

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite gift for toddlers, April 17, 2001
By A Customer
My own daughter (20 months) adores this book, and while I love most of the books in her collection, I have to say it's one of my favorites as well. I've given it to nearly all of our toddler friends as birthday gifts in the past year. This book has a number of levels, from finding the cat -- easy for the very young -- to recognizing animals, facilitating "animal sounds" discussions, counting, etc. And best of all, the art work is stunning. I have a feeling this book will become one of our enduring favorites.

The artwork in this book is amazing. I checked it out at the library for my 2.5 year old and now am buying it for our collection. The illustrations (appliques) are so colorful and creative. My boy enjoys looking for the cat and when he gets older, he can count the objects on each page. The author/illustrator is very creative. A wonderful addition to your library!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Toddler Book, August 18, 2000

I highly recommend this lovely book. It is a big hit with my 20-month-old daughter. The illustrations (all needlepoint and sewing) are charming, the text is simple (perfect for an older baby or young toddler) and the idea is whimsical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where's the cat?, April 29, 2000
By A Customer
This is a book that is enjoyable for adults as well as children, even if there isn't really any storyline. (Then again, this IS a counting book.) The artwork is wonderful! The bright pages make me want to run to the craft store and try my hand at applique. My daughter (22 months) insists on hearing the book over and over, every day. She loves pointing out the cat (as well as the elephant on the back cover whenever we get to the elephant page). I plan on counting buttons and and beads with her in addition to the various creatures as she gets older. This is a counting book that will hold a childs interest longer than most.

Maybe I was expecting too much when i purchased this book. The concept is good and the wording is very cute, but the colors and vibrancy are definitely visually confusing to a little child ( my younger daughter of 2.5 ) could not clearly see the shape of the the numbers. The felt design print somehow lacks sufficient definition and the page looked to me like it was more chaos than clarity. I am glad I bought a used copy and so did'nt waste much on this.

We first checked this book out from the library for my older daughter when she was 18 months. She loved looking for the cat from page to page. When my second daughter was around the same age, we found that the library had lost their copy, so we ordered one for Christmas and it's a hit again!

This is such a cute book! My 17 month old loves to find the cat in every picture and I'm sure it will help with counting once he's a bit older too! I also used to watch 1-2 year olds that all seemed to really enjoy the book (which is why I got it for my son!) LOVE this book!

The author/illustrator is very talented. The pictures capture my 16-month-old's attention. He loves to look for the hidden cat on the pages and most often grabs this book first at storytime. Colorful, unique. Recommend this highly for kids >1.
