4.0 out of 5 stars Merry pranksters of the modern jazz world, March 28, 2009

This review is from: This Is Our Moosic (Audio CD)
Mostly Other People Do The Killing, or MOPDTK, continue their blend of ironic, swinging, free jazz in somewhat improved form with "This Is Our Moosic". The original songs have off-kilter riffs and difficult rhythms. They sound better than on MOPDTK's first CD. Trumpeter Peter Evans and saxophonist Jon Irbagon are virtuosos who don't play by the same rules. Some parts of the disc are thrilling, and some can be grating. All in all, it's a good disc. The disc closes with Billy Joel's "Allentown", which is done mostly straight, though with some free jazz horn play. Modern jazz fans should consider getting this disc.
