Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Moragh, Holly's Ghost started out with An Absolute Bargain as working title. I am a firm believer that the story demands the title and it can only emerge when the book is nearing completion. I also believe that the title should give the reader a hint of what the book is about. An Absolute Bargain thus became Moragh, Holly's Ghost, a far more apt title.
Atmospherics, you know, the shadows cast on the curtains by the flickering light of a candle, unseasonal weather, thunder storms, doors opening or closing by themselves when there is no wind, birds and animals (owls in this instance) behaving contrary to their nature, that sort of thing, play a large part in Moragh, Holly's Ghost (and my subsequent novels). I think my novels carry a distict neo-gothic element. People must be dabbling in the craft with disastrous effect and serious witches have to read the tarot or be staring into other dimensions to fix what went awry.
I love writing bad characters and good characters behaving badly in a given situation. Nicole is the badly behaved character in Moragh, Holly's Ghost. But she is a troubled woman. There will be more about Nicole, Holly and Joshua in the 2nd and 3rd books in the Moragh Haunting series.

If you miss the romance stories you read in high school and enjoy supernatural overtones, then this book is for you. I liked the use of owls to set the tone. The use of signs and astrology references at the beginning of each chapter was interesting. However, I must confess I found the typos and editorial issues (e.g., frequent switching from present to past tense; page breaks in the middle of the page)distracting and it detracted from the story.

I got this book as a last minute grab, I should have bought a lottery ticket the same day based on the luck I was having. This was a ghost story (the title said so) and I thought "maybe something different for a change". I was right about the different part, it was a ghost story but that was only a bit of a many layered plot. not the least of which is witches and love spells, horrible "in-laws", betrayal and murder.

Holly's is at her wit's end trying to see her children, her vindictive ex-husband and his equally evil wife have prevented her from seeing them even though she has joint custody. This situation leads us down a long road that ends with a new husband and a lot of pain, hate and tears.

Joshua has been engaged to Nichole for 4 years and has finally woken to the fact that she may never intend to marry him and in a move of fate (that you need to read the book to see how it occurred), he ends up with a "contract" marriage to Holly to spite Nichole (sort of but not really).

There is SO much more to this story than I can cover in this review, the main thing that the reader wants to know all through the book is "What happened to Moragh??" and you won't get that full answer until the last pages.

This is a great paranormal , almost Perry Mason type mystery that has you addicted to the story and trying to figure out where the story is going (usually a useless effort, too many surprises).

Do you like romance novels? How about paranormal ones? Family dynamics, relationships, history? This book has it all.

Holly is a divorced mother who just wants to see her kids, but her ex and his new wife, a busybody who dabbles in spells, won't allow it. Holly's friends, who also dabble in witchcraft, put an ad in the paper helping Holly start her life over, This is where we meet Joshua, a man who actually wants to marry another, but she makes him wait too long. By answering the ad he hopes to push his fiancée to marriage. The rest is mystery at its best. What will happen to Holly and Joshua? Will Heather, Holly's sister (?) be able to help her? Does Holly ever get to see her kids and what happens to her ex and his new wife? And just who is Moragh and what does she bring to the book? You'll just have to read the book to find out the answers to these questions and more!

The beginning of this was a little hard to digest because you are meeting all the characters and there are so many. Once you know them all and their back stories the book begins to pick up steam and holds your attention throughout. The subplots come together well and you get to either like or hate the characters and that's what a good book does to you.
I'd read Maggie Tideswell again! Good job.

I enjoyed this book. My attention was grabbed from the first page, with the consequence that I read far too late into the night knowing all the while that I had a full day at work ahead of me. Staying up past my bedtime proved definitely worthwhile! I especially appreciated the inherent teaching about right use of magical practices, that it's not play and not to be taken lightly. I look forward to more books from Maggie Tideswell.

Maggie Tideswell is a master of the "grab ya." Her writing is reminiscent of the masters of old, yet she takes the modern subject and turns it and twists it until the writing itself takes on a persona unto itself. More, Maggie, gives us more!!

This story kept me on the edge of my seat. The author weaves a complex story that includes everything, love, lies, family secrets, a ghost and witchcraft. From the minute I started reading it was difficult to put down even when bedtime beckoned. The characters are rich and developed. The plot is full of surprises and the ending... I don't want to spoil any surprises but it was full of action and suspense. Awesome read.
