Product Description

Morakniv Classic series of knives, developed by Mora of Sweden for over a century, have been proven reliable by generations of carpenters and wood carvers. The Classic Craftsmen 611 features a 3.9-inch carbon steel blade, red birch wood handle and single-sided finger protection. Mora knives made from high carbon steel achieve high hardness, sharpen easily and are exceptionally tough. High carbon steels are preferred in applications that demand durability and frequent regrinding. The material is harder than stainless steel, allowing it to hold a sharper and more durably acute edge. Morakniv has been manufacturing the highest-quality knives in Mora, Sweden since 1891. Professionals worldwide trust the quality materials and fine craftsmanship of Mora Knives. Mora knives feature ergonomically-designed handles and employ premium-quality knife steel that is optimally adapted to the task for which the knife is intended. Sheath included.

But this knife is.

You can go on and on about knives. Ill just say these few words. Most knives are not worth what you pay for them, not so here. I have owned dozens of knives and when it comes to small task woodworking and basic camp chores this knife takes the cake. No knife of mine yet is better and I don't have poor knives. And at the price you can afford tons of them for the shed, around the house, the tool box, the car ect. They have a great grind that is a fantastic cutter. It may not be a big on chopping splitting batonning and all that. For some it will not be survival knife worthy, but for others it will be. Either way I can't see any one who wants a good utility or tool knife disliking this knife unless they care more about looks and throwing away money than they do practicality and cutting performance. Mora makes other models that some may perfer I have heard criticisms of the guard and I'm not addressing those here or advocating for or against the guard or the handle material or grip or in any way splitting hairs over the different mora styles. I am only saying that the mora knife is a huge breath of fresh air, I love it, I will purchase more of them and it is a travisty that you can't purchase them in local outdoors stores.

I have the #1 classic as well and love it. I am more comfortable with this one because of the finger guard. Call me a wuss but I like having a finger guard when in the field. When it is cold and your fingers feel frozen having the finger guard is a real comfort when struggling to shave tender to start a fire.

I now have 3 Mora knives, because I have come to feel that they give the best value for the $$ spent of ALL the knives I own / have owned. I have the 611, the Craftline HighQ Robust, and the Craftline TopQ Allround 11201. All 3 arrived in perfect, shaving sharp condition and have proven to be quite durable, even though I sometimes "abuse" my knives. I bought the Mora 611 because it is identical to the 612 except that the 611 has a slightly shorter blade than the 612 (and my other 2 Mora knives as well), which makes it easier for me to use for some things. Like the 612, the 611 has what Mora terms "ordinary finger protection". This is important to me because, even in a non-survival situation, the LAST thing I want is to slice open my finger(s) because my hand slipped up the handle onto the blade! All 3 of my Mora knives came sharp enough to cut to the bone INSTANTLY! Also, with the "ordinary finger protection" I can use my thumb to press down on the blade spine while still protecting my fingers. I have average size hands, but somewhat slender fingers, and the 611 has a very comfortable handle. I don't see me buying any knife other than a Mora from now on, unless I have a highly specialized need that Mora can't meet.

A knife that performs time and time again, great steel that you can get as sharp as your ability allows you to.

It's a Mora, so the quality is on par with what you'd expect. My single issue it with the finger guard and the sheath. When the knife is sheathed, the finger guard protrudes from a notch in the side of the sheath. It seems natural to draw the knife from the sheath by putting your finger in front of the gaurd and pulling the knife out, but once the knife is unsheathed, your index finger now rest on a very sharp blade. It seems obvious that you just wouldn't do it anymore, but it is so instinctive to pull it out that way that you can hardly help from doing it. Since there are so many Mora's to choose from, maybe this review will encourage you to look at others.

This is a truly great knife. Other knife makers go on about how their knives are the best all around camp/utility knives, this one blows them out of the water. Sharp enough to actually shave with, and easy to keep sharp. Do not let its steak knife appearance put you off. This is real.

This knife is scalpel sharp and holds an edge. This is my hang around my neck knife when I'm out in the bush. I am never too far from one. These were cheap enough to buy 4 of them. One for each vehicle and to have one as a backup incase I lose one. I noticed that the price went up since I bought mine. I was going to get a mess of them to hand out to my prepping buddies. I still will but will be more choosy as to who gets one.

Nice little knife, cheaper looking wood handle, had slight rust on the guard portion of the knife. Good knife and happy regardless.
