5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Collection, June 29, 2007

I bought this book for a philosophy class on Contemporary Moral Issues, and it covered all topics very well with readings from major philosophers and distinguished modern professors. It's a great way to learn the basics of philosophy (Utilitarianism, Kant, etc) and get you thinking about the problems we face today. I'd never thought so deeply about affirmative action, animal rights, the death penalty, and much more until I read this book!

3.0 out of 5 stars OK for a textbook, July 16, 2011

This review is from: Morality and Moral Controversies: Readings in Moral, Social and Political Philosophy (8th Edition) (Paperback)
This book was needed/used for a college Philosophy class. Most of the text contains information regarding many different philosophers with excepts from different papers that they have written. A few things that I don't like about the book: no index and very little reviews/critiques on what the authors are saying. Many of the articles were written several hundred years ago, so difficult in many instances to interpret. Unless you need this book for a particular class, you may want to consider another choice.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Read for very small print, April 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Morality and Moral Controversies: Readings in Moral, Social and Political Philosophy (8th Edition) (Paperback)
The content was and excellant read once you get past the fact that the pages are tissue paper thin and highlighters bleed through to the next page(s) and the print is so small that if you are over 40 you will need to invest in reading (magnifying) glasses. I am not particularly for one type of book or the other but this subject matter may be better suited to the style and format of the SIRUS textbooks. The subject matter would be easier to follow as well as read without the (magnifying) spectacles.
