5.0 out of 5 stars Moraito is the BOMB!, May 29, 2000

(REAL NAME)
I decided to check out Moraito due to Richard Brune's ravings (the famous guitar builder and guitarist). I am speechless, this is really pure flamenco but also very virtuosic and filled with a modern approach. I would recommend this to people who are into Sabicas, Paco, and stuff like Tomatito, but wouldn't recommend it to people who just want to buy some Rumba dance stuff (not that there is anything worng with that...) Beautiful album and a shame that outside of Spain he is rather obscure...

4.0 out of 5 stars Carrying on the tradition, March 28, 2011
This review is from: Morao Y Oro (Audio CD)
Confusingly, there are three (3) Moraítos in the flamenco world:

1) Manuel Moreno, son of a Jerez Gypsy cantaor called El Morao and thus the original Moraíto, who was (with Juanito Serrano) one of the fenómenos of the 1950s.

2) Juan Moreno, the original Moraíto Chico, his brother.

3) Moraíto Chico II, son of Juan, the protagonist of this recording.

Moraíto Chico II's playing has gained him several awards, and his credentials are thus impeccable. On this 1992 recording he gives an able demonstration of modern Flamenco, commendably uncluttered with extraneous instruments except for the groaning of a fretless bass on the Sevillanas. The vocals of El Torta feature on one Bulería.

Contents:

Feria del Caballo (sevillanas)
Alameda vieja (rondeña)
Buleriando (buleria)
Bronce (soleá)
Musica en el aire (bulería)
Terremoto (siguiriya y cabal)
Rompeserones (tangos)
Ventorrillo de la Union (taranto)
Mercado persa (vals bulería)

The total time is 41'17".

5.0 out of 5 stars The heart of flamenco, June 12, 2000
By
This very well recorded CD shows Moraito using the idiom of Flamenco and the guitar to produce "pure music": intense and concentrated, fresh as an improvisation, full as an orchestral score. This is a must for any musician. Not for background music.
