5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is truly amazing!!!, March 17, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Morbid Latenight Show (Audio CD)
Bertine's first album, Morbid Latenight Show, is truly amazing. Her loungy 60's pop infused with 90's dance beats and her beautiful voice make this a perfect CD for driving, hanging out, dancing, laying in your room, or whatever!! Unfortunately her US label dropped her after this release. If you get a chance, track down her two follow-up releases Beautiful So Far & Sweet Injections -- these can usually be found on the European Amazon sites. She's also currently working on her fouth album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Northern Siren puts a spell on you..., October 9, 2005
This review is from: Morbid Latenight Show (Audio CD)

Northern Siren - that's what comes to my mind whenever I hear of Bertine Zetlitz. And she's one of my favorite sound sirens to please my ears with her magic. Often ironic, a little sassy, but unceasingly charming and moving - she's all that. Bertine's got everything it takes to be artistically unique and pretty entertaining at the same time. Some compare her to Bjork, which is rather inappropriate, I think. Bertine is definitely not that pretentious and is far more accessible. What's more, she pushes pop music where most of this genre performers would never go; her songs are a perfect mix of pop, trip-hop, chill-out and modern electronica. These are those subtle little details and delightful song arrangements that make you want to play her music over and over again, discovering something different every time.

"Morbid Latenight Show" is Bertine's debut album from 1998 (she's released four albums so far!). Although it's been seven years from its release, "MLS" sounds surprisingly fresh and original. It's a climatic piece of sophisticated music, perfect for Autumn/Winter evenings. The album is the first time, Bertine invites you into her fascinating/sensual/weird/introvert world, and she does it in a wonderfully seductive way. Will you let her posses your mind or will you stay resistant to her spell? It's up to you. "Morbid Latenight Show" is definitely a worthwhile debut.

It's such a pitty Amazon doesn't offer the rest of Bertine Zetlitz's discography. Whatever, I'd love to recommend you the following Bertine cd's:

* "Beautiful So Far" - a great 2000 follow-up album, it may stick in your cd player even longer than a debut cd. It's more fun, uplifting and beat-driven. There's a little feel of 70's music to it.

* "Sweet Injections" (2003) - Bertine's best release to date. It's really hard to express its brilliance. Top notch electronica, breathtaking orchestral parts, best vocals and lyrics. Flawless album and one of my favorites. If well promoted, could've been an international sensation. Love it so much.

* "Rollerskating" (2004) - it's totally fun, crazy and funky. I can imagine Bertine say "Let's have some fun and see what happens". And what happened is just great. Back is the 70's feel to the music, but the electronical arrangements are very simplistic, which stands for the album being a concept one. Very interesting cd.

Make yourself a sonic pleasure and dive into Bertine's unusual world. Once you try it, you won't leave it for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars An incrediably beautiful and totally refreshing CD, buy it!, August 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Morbid Latenight Show (Audio CD)
Fusing 60's and 70's electrical pop with her own unique style, Bertine's "Morbid Latenight Show" is a CD not to be missed. Her lyrics and sound are totally different and fresh. There is really no way to describe the talent behind the music till you actually listen to it. I had the honor of meeting Bertine this year at the Lilith Fair and got her to sign my CD and poster. While this was incrediably cool, it was Bertine's attitude that blew me away. She was VERY sweet, kind, and was wonderful to talk to. She was very appreciative of her fans and made each one feel special. This combined with her extreme talent makes her one of my favorite artists. Some of the best tracks are Apples and Diamonds, Abigal, Snow on a Hot Day, Little Rosie, Butcher's Son, and Morbid Latenight Show. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a weak track here., June 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Morbid Latenight Show (Audio CD)
The thing I like best about this CD is the way it is completely UN-American in style and arrangement. Listening to this CD makes me think of snowy days, long overseas plane trips, and rainy afternoons. Her voice is absolutely hypnotic and the instrumentation is great, even though most of it is electronic. Abigail and In My Mind are standouts.

5.0 out of 5 stars An astonishingly diverse debut: ravishing., June 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Morbid Latenight Show (Audio CD)
Listened to c.d. in Tower and was immediately struck by her distinct vocals and electric delivery. Echoes of Lisa Ekdahl, Stina Nordenson, Bjork, but she has her own style that is fascinatingly eclectic. Jazz, dance, pop all merge to produce one of the most exciting debuts of recent years. Love all the songs, but I would be hard pressed to think of a more mesmerising song this year than 'Butcher's Son'. Couldn't recommend this album enough. Buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great on First listen!, May 23, 1999

This review is from: Morbid Latenight Show (Audio CD)
I saw it was on Nettwerk and was expecting something harsh, but the soft picture of Bertine on the cover made me listen to it. Wow. My fave album of 1998 was Locust "morning light" and i'm also a fan of OLIVE. Bertine's album crosses those styles with electro production in the same vein as above, check them out as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelent Scandinavian pop music, May 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Morbid Latenight Show (Audio CD)
I read that this amazing Norwegian female singer won two Grammy's in her country for this album, so I bought it. What I love most about the album is that Bertine manages to mix jazz, dance and pop in a light and cool way. She also has some great lyrics! I can't imagine she learnt English only in school. There are several very good tracks here. I can mention the single "Apples & Diamonds", "Abigail" and "In My Mind". Looking forward to her next album already!
