Biography

The most groove-oriented act in the mid-'90s female-fronted electronica crowd, Morcheeba rely on the sweet, fluid vocals of Skye Edwards and a laid-back mix of fusion, funk, and blues produced by brothers Paul and Ross Godfrey, on beats/scratches and guitar/keyboards, respectively. The trio was formed in 1995 when the Godfreys decided to go out on their own after co-producing six tracks for David Byrne's album Feelings. Morcheeba were formed in London in 1995 by musicians Paul and Ross Godfrey, joined by singer Skye Edwards. The band's style has evolved over their career, from the trip-hop beginnings of 1995's Who Can You Trust (which includes the single "Trigger Hippie" used in the film Enemy of the State) to the million selling follow-up, Big Calm.

The band adopted funk and disco for their 2000 release Fragments of Freedom while the follow-up Charango incorporated Brazilian beats and involved collaborations with Kurt Wagner (from alt-country band Lambchop) and rap artist Slick Rick.
