Get the Facts and Helpful Information--A Must Read,
By A Customer
This review is from: No More ADHD (Paperback)
I recently saw Dr. Mary Ann Block on the CBS news program "48 Hours" and liked what she said about looking for the underlying causes of attention and behavior symptoms instead of giving risky drugs to cover the symptoms. So I got her book and I read it in one night. It was that good and that important. Dr. Block just plain makes sense and it was so exciting to finally get some practical information, I couldn't stop reading. I now understand all the possible factors that can be causing the ADHD symptoms and would never consider using drugs when there are so many safer and more reasonable options available. If anyone tells you that you or your child has ADHD, and you are fortunate enough to find this site and be reading this review, then, let me tell you, you have found the right book to read. It is No More ADHD by Dr. Mary Ann Block.

Both kids came off the Ritalin, this works,
This review is from: No More ADHD (Paperback)
I have two children that were diagnosed ADD and ADHD in 3rd grade. I went along with the program of Ritalin and then Adderal (until I learned what it can do to their livers over time and how taking these drugs can lead to depression and the need for anti-depressents which can then really lead to more problems)and then I pulled the kids off the medications. I didn't tell the teachers, lol, until a year and a half later. But by then I had read the book and was going through the process of elimination to discover what was creating the problems with my kids.
It takes some time and going to her website is a big help: [...]but this book was a life saver. I was so helped by it that I bought copies and made teachers and counselors, even my kids principal read the book. Not only did it educate them but it empowered them to work with me on things to be done at school to find the source for my children's lack of attention in class. Between removing the processed foods, sugars and doing the other things suggested in the book, we were able to overcome what looked like ADHD and ADD symptoms. So does this book educate? Most definitely. Is there help out here that doesn't require one to poison our children with chemicals? Absolutely! My kids are 16 and 14 today and doing great.

Solid overview of the ADHD label & practical holistic help,
By
This review is from: No More ADHD (Paperback)
Dr. Block has put together an insightful analysis of the roots of the epidemic of ADD/ADHD labeling, while offering proven effective interventions for people seeking to address the causes that produce the symptoms associated with those labels. There are many physical, emotional, and environmental factors that contribute to inattentiveness and hyperactivity. Common discipline methods and drug treatments often aggravate these underlying imbalances and stressors, even if they temporarily create conforming/compliant behavior. While this book has improved on the scope of the author's previous book "No More Ritalin," I'd like to see a further expansion toward examining emotional and subtle energy factors that relate to ADD/ADHD symptoms, as these interact with biochemical/environmental factors addressed in the present book. Unfortunately, there are many parents and caretakers who are unwilling to make changes in their current habits of feeding, nurturing, and disciplining children. The more healthy options that can be presented, the better, since this increases the chances that parents and educators will try some beneficial approach. Dr. Block has done a solid job of exposing the fallacies and negligence of the established medical paradigm surrounding the ADD/ADHD issue.

our children do not need to be drugged to be helped,

This review is from: No More ADHD (Paperback)
Dr. Block's book "No More ADHD" is similar to her book "No More Ritalin" in content. "No More ADHD" is an excellent book that is easy to read and understand. The author reveals that things such as hypoglycemia/low blood sugar, allergies and sensitivities often cause ADHD-like symptoms. This book is very important because it shows that our children do not need to be drugged to be helped and that there are alternatives.

Very Informational. A Must Read!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: No More ADHD (Paperback)
Finally, a book that not only makes sense but gives practical suggestions to help our children. The book, No More ADHD, is bigger and better and with much more information than Dr. Block's first book, No More Ritalin. No More ADHD examines the ADHD diagnosis and rips it to shreds with facts from the FDA, DEA and other sources. But most importantly, the author takes an unflinching look at the all too real and frightening dangers of the drugs that doctors give children who are labeled ADHD. The psychotic and cardiac symptoms alone should send up big red flags! But the book has answers. Dr. Block explains the real causes of attention and behavior problems and what parents can do to fix them. Before you and your child get caught up in the ADHD frenzy, you have to read this book. Your child is depending on you.

a must read for anyone who has children in their lives,
By A Customer
This review is from: No More ADHD (Paperback)
This book gives alternatives to the drugs that doctors are so quick to pass out to our children. Everybody knows that drugs have side effects, especially with children. Dr. Block offers easy alternatives that can drastically improve your child's life and yours. I have passed this book on to many of my friends who have children who have had problems. Some are just starting to have problems, and have been ecstatic to nip the problem in the bud and be able to help their child without having to put prescription drugs into their systems. Others are at their wits ends and have been to many doctors and feel like they have tried everything with no solution. They have read this book and instantly have had hope, and once used Dr. Blocks remedies on their children, they were happy the fight was over to find a way for their children to finally feel better. i highly recomend this book to anyone who cares about a child.

Thank you,

As I read through this book, it began to make sense of the whole problem. Our teachers and parents are looking for the quick fix,(medication) to take care of the problem. If you really think about it Dr. Mary Ann Block is correct in everything she is saying. It we all had to sit in a hard chair 6 hours a day listening to a teacher speak all day, I am sure everyone including my self would be labeled ADHD if there was such a disease. I think this book is one of the most important tools a parent who is looking for answers not medication should read. I think educators who take care of our children whould read. I think all of the us lack a good diet and need to get back on track with simple but important nutrients and good nutrition to start the day off right.

Gets to the root of the cause of the constellation of symptoms that results in ADD/ADHD,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: No More ADHD (Paperback)
I am fortunate to live in the area and first met Dr. Mary Ann Block when she held a free informational seminar at her office. This book is an honest account of how parents can take responsibility for helping to resolve their child's or their own ADD/ADHD symptoms and is based on her years of success in using this treatment protocol. As with so many symptoms for which there are Rx treatments, it is convenient for them to be labeled as a disease - this helps ensure that insurance will cover the treatment and provides a nice short term to describe the constellation of symptoms. But as with many other "diseases", Rx treatments rarely get to the root of the source of the symptoms. This book can help you do that. I am also very fortunate that I also had this same constellation of symptoms - I realized this when I was researching my son's problem - I figured out that whatever he had - I had too. By removing the foods to which we are intolerant (e.g., gluten) and allergic (dairy, soy, eggs, etc.) and adding the nutrients that were deficient in our bodies due to the damage to our guts from the gluten, we have resolved many of our symptoms. Dr. Block provides a tremendous service to the community with her website and through these books - in hindsight I could have saved thousands of dollars had I started here - it took me several years to learn that conventional doctors don't have a clue about this. I don't believe there is a "cure" per se for ADD/ADHD, since IMHO it's not a real disease, BUT this approach can help to heal your body and minimize the symptoms. So, no this book won't help you "cure" ADD/ADHD, but it can dramatically improve your quality of life and that of your child. It does take discipline and the healing is not overnite - it's taken years for the offending things to do the damage, so it can take some time to heal - our body has to rebuild the damaged cells etc. It is also a permanent lifestyle change and that is naturally difficult for us as humans, but it is possible and well worth the effort.

Reality not Hype!,
By "bass1_448" (Burleson, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No More ADHD (Paperback)
This book is sure to be on all pharmacuetical companies hit lists. After reading this book one can no longer turn a blind eye to the growing number of children who are being needlessly drugged, thus robbing him or her of their full potential. This book offers alternatives to medicating your child. Children have suffered from what has been labeled "ADHD" for many years, but now thanks to companies that stand to profit significantly, this problem has been given a name. Most people do not realize that doctors are given incentives to prescribe drugs by the makers of the drugs. I would not call this unbiased treatment. Thanks to Dr. Block(and by the way, she is a real doctor who went to medical school) we have an alternative to medicating our children. This book not only gave my family alternatives to drugs but taught us how to deal with the school whose teachers seem to think they are qualified to offer a medical diagnosis. She talks about diet and nutrition, both of which have been proven to adversely affect one's behavior. Which, by the way, is what we are addressing. She also does a complete medical workup unlike most doctors that prescribe these drugs. While this alternative may take a much larger commitment than to hand your child a pill and a glass of water in the morning, it will let you sleep better at night knowing you did what was best for your child. Ritalin, Adderal, Concerta, etc. are not natural substances to introduce to a child's growing body. They are drugs and they do not treat the problem but merely mask it. If you don't want to medicate your child this is a must read. Even if you are not sure if this is an answer for you, it is a small investment of both time and money to help make an educated decision. It is the best money that my family has ever spent.

A Useful Practical Book on Safe Treatment for ADHD,
By A Customer
This review is from: No More ADHD (Paperback)
As a parent, I found "No More ADHD" most useful in how to view and treat so-called Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Although the actual existence of ADHD as a disease is highly unlikely, the child behavior attributed to it is very real and often bothersome to many parents. "No More ADHD" gives hope to those responsible parents who are looking for safer and saner solutions to the sometimes annoying behavior of their children. It also should be helpful to teachers in resisting attempts by psychologists and medical doctors who promote drugging to control children. Along this line, "No More ADHD" joins "Manufacturing Victims" by Dineen and "Shrink Assault" by Samuel in giving parents and teachers an education in what lies behind treating children with psychiatric drugs. The author of "No More ADHD" is an experienced mother and family physician who went into medicine after her daughter had been misdiagnosed, then treated with drugs that caused serious health problems for the girl. The book gives practical natural solutions that parents would want to try before subjecting their children to harmful behavior modification drugs.
