The story is 50 years old but still catches the rapt attention of the first grade class that I read to every week. The book has the classic illustrations which are colorful and descriptive. An excellent choice for young children with enough mischief yet a clear message of good intentions.

In this second Paddington Bear book, we have a series of adventures that occur between the Summer holidays and Christmas, as Paddington finds himself in trouble with the Browns, Mr Curry, and even the police. As usual, Michael Bond and Peggy Fortnum do an excellent work in this book as the illustrations and text work very well together, and transfer very well on the Kindle. To me that device is just a treat since it allows me to have in my pocket the whole Paddington Bear series, without having to carry a huge bag wherever I go.

Of my favourite stories, I'd say that the Bonfire and the Christmas ones were much funny to read, and that the one involving the police was excellent as you see Paddington trying to solve two mysteries which happened in 32 Windsor Gardens.

A great purchase for everyone ready to give a chance to a bear coming all the way from Darkest Peru.

Paddington is a loveable, cuddly, inquisitive, independent bear who lives with the Browns while his aunt is in Peru. This is a classic British children's book that needs to be experienced here in America -- it truly is a wonderful book.

The seventh Paddington book includes the following stories: A Bear at Sea, Anchors Away, Paddington Buys a Share, A Visit to the Stock Exchange, Paddington in a Hole, Too Much off the Top and Paddington Steps Out. My favorite of these are Paddington Buys a Share, A Visit to the Stock Exchange and Anchors Away. In this adventure Paddington comes back to England from his visit to Peru with his Aunt Lucy. While back in England he gets a job at a barber shop, buys a stock and goes to Judy's school and ends up performing in a ballet. It's your average Paddington book but I felt like it was better than the last few have been.

"Paddington" books are actually kids' books, but I never read them when I was a kid. Well, lo, and behold, well into my eighth decade I downloaded one simply because I'd never read one when I was a kid. It was a totally pleasurable experience. I learned about middle-class British family values, social mores, and the way people are expected to conduct themselves. Paddington, of course, does NOT always conduct himself as a proper British child should, thus getting into troubles now and again, but learning that family is always with you, and that it's important to treat everyone civilly, even crotchety neighbors. Those would be great lessons to teach children today.

I read all these books or should I say a lot were read to me in Primary school in England growing up, I have been reading them to my American born little girl for a few years and she just loves the tails. It is as charming as Winnie the Pooh but he's a lot more of a rascal and its still so funny to the adults with the humor. If you have kids read them all to them, they will love them. Cheers

A delightful, and very English tale about a rather unusual bear. I Recommend it for primary school age children. A classic.
