My GAWD..............If I took the things that I liked the most out of Six Parts Seven, Tristeza, Caspian, The Mercury Program (my favorites), and my own music that I create at home, it still wouldn't even touch what this band has done with this awesome album. I stumbled upon it and gave it a full day of listens, then immediately purchased their other self-titled EP. This is truly wonderful post-rock instrumental music with great melodies and guitarwork - everyone shines here, the bass player and drummer are perfectly complementary as well. Great arrangments. I can't tell you how much I enjoy this album - if you like beautiful post rock in the vein of the aforementioned bands, just imagine this album being better. Then get it.

If you like the emotional trips of Explosions In The Sky, Mogwai, The Six Parts Seven, or even Pelican, then Signal Hill is definitely for you! In fact, you may like this band better! I can't put into words how the songs can make you feel. I guess for me it's like blissfulness, longing, nostalgia, and a state of nirvana! The opening track "The Dead Vineyard" was the first song I heard by them on Last.fm and I was utterly blown away! Every song is a long, spiraling journey through the perhaps more sparse avenues in one's mind. It's like I'm riding on a train to nowhere, soaring above a lake in a glider, or being swept down a fast-moving river when listening to this very deep, introspective album. They're a little more complex than some other instrumental bands, making them all the more enticing. Unfortunately, people may say that all their songs sound the same. NO! This is cohesive album and every track is a unique expedition. There are no real standouts- except every song. This is a relatively new band, so catch them while you can to know them "before they were cool". This is perfect lonely driving music or when laying on a bed watching the drapes on a window dance with small gusts of wind. Oh! And on one more note- get this record from their website! It is WAY cheaper, more money goes to the band, and you can even get CD bundles! For a limited time, even pins (although I don't like having little holes in my shirt). Just listen and relax- you'll be on your dream beach in no time.

True to the post-rock formula but doesn't stand out in any way. Not bad

Signal Hill seems to take the "post-rock" format's capacity for exploration into musical areas that generally get called baroque (figures on guitar and bass that sound as if the archpeggios are adornment, until one realizes that they are regularly placed, varying, and thus elements of structure), but, like the middle-18th century musicians the term would evoke, they do so to ask questions, and not to close them off. The music is extremely listenable, but the result is not just another disk of "soundtrack music"; instead, the sound is the medium of communication, and the song is the statement. Without rock bravado nor much of the post-punk gloom, this is a record of songs like telegraph sessions, but the code is easy, if not universal.
