5.0 out of 5 stars THE Best of This Type of Puzzle
I love art puzzles--perhaps even addicted to them--and have bought almost every book I could get a hold of here in Australia over the past two years. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not Mindbending
This was an okay book, but more aimed toward the beginner or kids. I started doing the puzzles about half way through the book hoping to get into some harder ones. That never happened. Even the ones at the very end of the book were pretty easy. Nothing remotely close to mindbending.

I love art puzzles--perhaps even addicted to them--and have bought almost every book I could get a hold of here in Australia over the past two years. Of them all, I have found that Kathy Weaver's are the best. She has a knack for making them just hard enough to be fun and challenging, but also has figures that give enough information to make the puzzle solvable just from the clues given (not the case for many "line drawing" figures of other authors!) Weaver's first book of art puzzles was so good that I bought the book again and redid them all. This new book, so far, seems to be the same top quality.

Weaver is my fav art puzzle maker because I love the logic challenges, but I do NOT like counting 50 squares or more. Some folks love it, but it's just a chore for me. I like Weaver's pics because they are cute and imaginative and they don't go over 30 squares. I hope she comes up with another book soon, I'll buy it!

Very entertaining and absorbing. Great stress reliever and gets the brain really working. A wonderful way to "get away". You feel like you have really accomplished something when you solve the puzzle. Hours and hours of great entertainment.

I truly enjoy Kathy Weaver's creativity, but I'm making the same complaint I made with the last book. Most of the puzzles are too easy! She has a tendency toward symmetry which almost gives away the puzzle.

I would think it would be a wonderful book for beginners, though! If you've never tried Hanjie and you're thinking about it, give this book a shot. Good quality paper is combined with reasonable sized grids and the final results are the puzzles are usually fun! Also, if you're looking for a book to carry in your purse to fill in time while waiting at the dentist's office, this is the way to go.

I am interested in books for advanced solvers. I am not well, and books like this help me pass the time when I am confined to my house.

4.0 out of 5 stars New addiction fed well, February 4, 2011

My favourite sudoku/variants author (Djape) always puts some extra puzzles of other types into his books. This is how I get hooked on the next variant! My favourite types of puzzle involve the words KILLER, JIGSAW and SAMURAI

However, over this Australian summer I got quite a bit (read obsessive) into Hanjie (many other names for this - art puzzles is Kathy Weaver's chosen title). I branched out to other authors to keep up with the need to count squares every minute of the day.

I have completed four books - this is one of them

I have really enjoyed doing these puzzles. As a relative newcomer, I was concerned that I would get out of my league with the mindbenders, but I suffered no pain. More experienced solvers would agree that the puzzles are all manageable, without causing too much angst. I can imagine that they may be a bit easy for the experts. But I think they are challenging enough for the average person.

I really liked the range of pictures - with some of the other books, if I see any more people playing different sports with different balls, I'll scream! Or trains. Or trucks. or smilie faces. Of course, the easier ones here too are a bit gikky, but the more complicated ones produce some very pleasing images.

I agree that this author does use symmetry a lot. Try DJape if you want to be challenged by assymetrical images and groovy pics.

This book is good for people who need decent sized squares on their grid. Compared to the Japanese authors, it is much more user friendly in this aspect.

This is a good value for money puzzle book.

I enjoy these puzzles. The good thing is that they can actually be solved! The only thing I wish is that the paper would take colored highlighters without bleeding through. I enjoyed the puzzles and their pictures.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mindbending?, June 5, 2008
This review is from: More Art Puzzles By Number: From Easy to Mind Bending (Paperback)
I was pretty disappointed with this book. I haven't found a single puzzle in it that would be anywhere close to "mind bending". I personally love doing this type of puzzle, and purchased several different books of this variety, and this one was definitely my least favorite. I finally got tired of the monotony of these too easy puzzles, and gave the book to my 9-year-old. She's not having any trouble solving them either.

As a reader of large-print books, I adore Kathy Weaver's puzzles. I never have to dig out my magnifying glass. And the pages of this book do not fall out the way her other book did.
