5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp wit, talent return in Sharp's sophomore CD
I've been a huge fan of Bree Sharp since her "David Duchovny" days and have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of her second CD. Now that it is finally here, I have nothing but lavish praise for it (of course!).

1) Lazy Afternoon: 5/5, Catchy tune, meaningful, poetic sociopolitical message about deforestation, Manifest Destiny, and animal cruelty

3.0 out of 5 stars Where has all the rock music gone?
Maybe not surprisingly, this is a much weaker effort than the brilliant "A Cheap and Evil Girl". The problem is not so much the song-writing, which is still good, as the music, which is largely monotonous and culminates in an uninspired cover of "Boys of Summer". If you hope to find the likes of "Smitten", "Faster, Faster", or "Guttermouth" on this CD, you will be...

2) Everything Feels Wrong: 5/5, Great break-up tune with wry, witty, and up-to-the-minute lyrics (see "phat tattoo," "MP3 files")

3) The Galaxy Song: 5/5, Soothing New Age-type lullaby with otherworldly message and great vocals

4) The Last of Me: 5/5, FABULOUS woman-scorned song with disarmingly catchy lyrics and a hauntingly direct promise for revenge

5) The Boys of Summer: 5/5, Terrific, rocking gender-bending cover of Don Henley's classic "Boys of Summer"

6) Sunday School & Cigarettes (Slippin' Away): 4/5, Breezy, Jamaican-flavored beats make this a catchy tune but it's not my favorite

7) The Ballad of Grim and Lily: 5/5, Heartbreaking song-story about two on-the-run lovers

8) Dirty Magazine: 4/5, BEST SONG ON MORE B.S., I only rated it 4/5 because it is too short; hilarious lyrics, great beat

9) Morning in a Bar: 5/5, Hauntingly mellow tune about a melancholy, beer-soaked existence

10) Sleep Forever: 5/5, Great finale with flowing rhythm, catchy lyrics

5.0 out of 5 stars you better watch your back, she's coming after you, December 14, 2004

Tami S. (denver, co usa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: More B.S. (Audio CD)
My sister and I would always see "A Cheap and Evil Girl" at the record store while remarking at what a talentless POS Britney Spears is. My sister decided to purchase the album and it quickly became one of our favorites. "More B.S" is equally brilliant. Unlike a few of the reviews above, I believe that More B.S. is just as sharp and poignant as her debut.

Track 1: Lazy Afternoon 5/5
Exceptionally ironic and pointed lyrics make this an awesome reality check to the greedy starbucks society that's taken over the world.

Track 2: Everything Feels Wrong 6/5
If you've ever tried to fool yourself and your friends into believing that you're over your recently lost love and failed, this song should be the theme music. Fabulous!

Track 3: Galaxy Song 4/5
A light and fun science-fiction lullaby.

Track 4: Last of Me 6/5
An incredibly well written revenge song. The lyrics fit so perfectly you almost forget how much you hate that person and want them to pay for what they did to you.

Track 5: Boys of Summer 5/5
Bree takes this song and gives it her own vibe and groove and makes it so much more fun than the original.

Track 6: Sunday School and Cigarettes (Slippin' Away) 5/5
A very chill and laid-back song. Great lyrics

Track 7: Ballad of Grim and Lily 5/5
Bree shows her lyrical prowess and proves her mastery of rhyme with this song. Excellent

Track 8: Dirty Magazine 5/5
Like Faster, Faster, A Cheap and Evil Girl and Guttermouth, this song speaks to the "do what I please" bad girl in all of us.

Track 9: Morning in a Bar 6/5
This eerie and moody song also showcases Bree's magnificent writing. My personal favorite.

Track 10: Sleep Forever 6/5
Sample lyrics "i wake up in the morning and the sun is shining but i barely have the strength to close the curtains stop the sun from hurting my black hole everything's an effort when you doubt the purpose of your soul"

Bree is a goddess. If you don't have More B.S. you are missing out. In fact, you should own A Cheap and Evil Girl, More B.S and Live at the Fez because they are all must haves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta love B.S., June 18, 2003
This review is from: More B.S. (Audio CD)
There was a time when I didnt know who Bree Sharp was. After buying A Cheap and Evil Girl because the name amused me all it took was one listen to the CD and I was hooked. I've been a loyal Bree Sharp fan ever since. Her sense of humor, her wit, and her sarcasm are addictive. The CD has been a constant favorite of mine and if it isn't in the CD player it's definately not far. More B.S. is another unique and special CD from Bree. Her voice is so different and wonderful. In a world full of mindless coporate music puppets Bree will forever stand out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bree: a hopefully soon-to-be-discovered gem, April 26, 2003
This review is from: More B.S. (Audio CD)
A wonderful album of magically crafted pop tunes, some with messages, some with deep emotion, some with humor. All enjoyable, beginning to end, a treat for the ears and mind. Bree's unique voice & terrific songwriting elevate this album to rare heights for a pop album. I've played this CD so many times, but I can't remove it from my car. Sometimes, I just HAVE to hear "Lazy Afternoon." Loud. And sing along. And then, well, I gotta hear the rest, too. A must-have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Wonderful, September 17, 2002
This review is from: More B.S. (Audio CD)
Simply put: This CD is wonderful. I don't want to wow anyone with big words to buy this cd. I just want everyone to know what a talented singer and especially sonwriter Bree Sharp is. I am amazed at how clever, searing, funny, sad, and just plain beautiful her lyrics are. I think this album is different then C&EG but just as good. My personal favorite is Last of me.

Both of Bree Sharp's CD's STAY in my CD player.

5.0 out of 5 stars bree has evolved..., August 15, 2002

Being a personal acquaintance of Bree's for a few years, seeing what new things she has to say in her new album was almost like watching a child grow.
The music of 'More BS' is infinitely more sophisticated than that of her debut, 'Cheap and Evil Girl.' C&EG contained mostly guitars-drums-bass, thoughtful lyrics, and a ton of potential. Like a starburst, 'More BS' has exploded on the scene, featuring not only an immeasureably more mature lyricist in Sharp, but a more visible bridge from her current music to the inspirations of her work. Sharp incorporates horns reminiscent of the Beatles' 'Penny Lane,' and she delivers a rocking cover of Don Henley's 'Boys of Summer.'
First Sharp has the ability to grimace and ... at an ex-lover in 'Everything Feels Wrong,' and only a few tracks later, she twangs into country-western reminiscent, strangely endearing 'Dirty Magazine,' which describes how she's "got no big plans and [she] ain't no beauty queen - [she] just wants to live in a dirty magazine."
Instantaneously she jumps into 'Morning in a Bar,' which has a different kind of Western feel - the low strings and her lilting vocals evoke images of a lazy sun rising over a dust-covered street in 1880's Montana, outside a plywood saloon.
My personal favorite song on the record is 'Sleep Forever,' the beautiful last track that ranges from Bree's already-trademark flawless intervals and a spoken-word verse. Very often in this track in particular, the distinctive voice of colleague Don Dilego rises from the background music, adding a perfectly harmonious supplement to Bree's vocal efforts.
Both watching Bree live and listening to her music fills one's heart with love and admiration for this beautiful woman with a beautiful voice and beautiful talents - and upon talking one-on-one with her, it shines through that she is a beautiful personality as well - offering nothing but kindness and smiles and thank-yous and autographs.
Though any true Bree fan must know where she's come from, it's sure that, though 'C&EG' is an endearing beginning, 'More BS' will quickly jump to the top of their favorites list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing, August 13, 2002

I've been waiting some time to write this review. I got an advance copy of this CD awhile ago, for booking purposes, and fell in love with it INSTANTLY. I've had the CD for about 10 days, and I've listened to it no less than 40 times. Her vocals are bright and very pleasing to the ear, her lyrics intelligent, tight, and effective, and the range of songs is a nice change of pace from most albums that tend to fall into such a narrow spectrum. Certainly one of the most talented up and coming artists on the market right now. Without a doubt, worth a listen. You'll be hooked.

Surprisingly fun and nice sound. This BS has more talent than most serious artists and she takes it for what it is: light entertainment and makes it fun and pleasant.

Worth a listen or two. Or more.

I have both of her efforts and this one is as strong if not better. She is as strong in concert, a pure voice not studio engineered. This CD will grow on you and you'll find that you leave it in the player more often then not. A purchase you will not regret.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not as energetic..., April 16, 2003
This review is from: More B.S. (Audio CD)
I adore this album, really I do. I was going to give it 5 stars, but I just can't bring myself to do it. There are funny songs and sad songs and everything in between, just like Cheap and Evil Girl, but...well, she lost the fire and spunk that drove songs like Guttermouth. If you hated Guttermouth, then this may be the album for you. My only other complaint is a minor similarity between Lazy Afternoon and Soak up the Sun (Sheryl Crow), but it doesn't break the album.

So, as I said, I do adore this album, but if for some twisted reason I had to choose between More B.S. and Cheap and Evil Girl, I'd take the latter.
