Very Good, But Could Have Been More, More, More...,

I admit it... I loved disco music... and Andrea True's "More, More, More" was a big part of it. So I was thrilled when I saw this CD compilation as my original vinyl albums had been played to death. The tracks on this compilation make up a big part of her disco career, but there is something missing. All the tracks from the original "More, More, More" album are here, and yes, this was her best work; mainly due to the great production work of Gregg Diamond. There is also the 7" edited version of "More, More, More" on here. The rest of the album is made up of her last two hits "N.Y. You Got Me Dancing," and "What's Your Name, What's Your Number;" both in 7" and album versions. What IS missing though is more tracks from her "White Witch" album; which a lot of people don't even know existed. That album was a follow-up to the "More, More, More" album. It included "N.Y..." and "What's Your Name...," but also some other noteworthy tracks that should have been included on a greatest hits compilation. At the very least, the title track of the second album "White Witch" could have been included. Still, I guess the company that released this CD was aiming more towards what the buying public was familiar with. If you are a fan of Andrea True's work, you will definately want this CD compilation to add to your collection. However, if you are a BIG fan of her work, you will want to get this CD, and THEN go out to an oldies record store and find a copy of her "White Witch" album to go along with it!

One brief yet memorable piece of disco history,

Some very good reminders of what it was like in the 70's to dance yourself into a sweat and party with friends without the dreaded shadow of AIDS hanging over your head. This was an era of pure fun and hedonism. And Andreas few songs of legacy are a part of that. While the straight audiences knew her mainly for the title tune, her very energetic "N.Y. N.Y. You got me dancin" was a big GAY hit with her even naming the hottest gay bars in NY at the time. [Listen closely] Cheesey? maybe, but worth it? DEFINITELY!!!!!!!!

If you are looking for the song from THE SEX AND THE CITY promos here it is! "More, More, More" is a great song, and it is probably one of the best disco songs out there. The rest of the material comes close to that song's classic lush appeal! This is great for anybody who appreciates good dance music!

I was really rooting for Andrea True, really I was. One of my personal all time favorites, "More, More, More", is easily a 5 star song (and makes this buy actually worth it), but it is the only good track. The rest was pretty embarrassing disco cheese. It would have made a good soundtrack to a late 70's roller boogie porno movie had one ever been made. I suggest finding the title track on a compilation of disco hits for more enjoyment. Looks like Miss True finally got some respect this year, though, as the band Len sampled some of "More, More, More" on it's hit song "Steal My Sunshine".

The Only Andrea True CD You Need to Buy.,
This review is from: More, More, More: The Best of the Andrea Grue Connection (Audio CD)
Along with Dennis Parker, Andrea True belonged to that only-in-the-70s phenomenon: porn stars who made really terrific disco albums. This CD is basically a re-release of her first album, "More, More, More," with two cuts from her lesser known follow-up, "White Witch": "New York You Keep Me Dancin'" and "What's Your Name, What's Your Number." And, as much as I love her, that's about it for Andrea in terms of her good songs, and this is the only CD that has 'em all. By now most people know the near-legendary storyline behind the recording of "More, More, More": Down-on-her luck struggling actress turned porn star gets stranded in Jamaica in the middle of a government coup and makes one last stab at the bigtime with a quickie recording of a catchy tune that gets smuggled back into the States. What followed was a sensation: "More, More, More" made its way through the gay bars of 1970s New York (it played endlessly at the popular Uncle Charlie's South) and onto the dance floor and radio airplay and became a monster hit, perfectly catching that era's philosophy of extravagant sexuality and over-indulgence in "More, More, More" of everything. Listen to the album version of "More, More, More" on this CD and be transported back to a New York City that just doesn't exist anymore, and one of the great things about "New York You Keep Me Dancin'" is listening to her rattle off some of the legendary discos of that era (Barefoot Boy, 12 West etc.) Yes, it has a definite gay sensibility, which is maybe why it was re-recorded by the "Sex in the City" women, one of the gayest straight shows in television history. It is also pure fabulousness that almost borders on camp were it not so wonderful to listen to, and the old girl is still going strong nearly 40 years later, bless her heart.

Andrea True Connection came on to the scene in the late 70s with the #1 Pop Smash "More More More".The only down fall to this album was it should of been an EP, only a few songs were on this album I think 6 or 7 in all. But good ones they are "Call Me" and "Party Line", but the dance and the boogie don't last long because of the few songs. She only had one album which is this compilation, and some added bonus remixes of "More More More" ,"Whats Your Name, Whats Your Number" and "New York You Got Me Dancin'". So actually you got 7 songs with three of them with (2) different versions....The problem here is that the strong songs like "Pary Line" and "You Fill Me Up", don't have their remixes on here to. Plus it wouldn't hurt to have a few more songs on this. Overall it is good disco, but works better as a 12 inch single than a album.

But, truthfully, not much more. A former porno actress and aspiring singer, Andrea really hit it big by the summer '76 when her first record, "More More More" (penned and produced by disco veteran Gregg Diamond) sailed into the top ten.She is/was a fiesty go-getter, not content with a career in XXX films and wanting to broaden her show business experience. She worked dilligently at promoting the song to dj's where and whenever she could and it paid off. Andrea's not a great singer, but the productions, melodies and beats are all lively enough to compensate for any vocal shortcomings. Some of the other selections on the disc, like the wildly energetic and anthemic "NY You Got Me Dancing", made modest chart dents, but nothing came close to matching the impact of the now classic title track. Still, they deserve some attention. You have to love Andrea's New York-ish accent and sassy attitude on "What's Your Name What's Your Number" and her almost defiant shouting/singing style on "Party Line." She recently appeared at a New York disco revival concert and actually sounded...well, not bad.And she seemed quite proud but never boastful about her brief success in disco music history. This collection is great fun and this entertainer's fifteen minutes of fame is most definitely worth noting.Personally, I think it's a great disc and I think Andrea True rocks!

If you lived in the 70's like myself, she was the ultimate disco diva along with Donna Summer. Though not as successful as Summer (due to her porn star past), she still had the range towards mainstream acceptance. The album is not as good as I thought. But, if you want to re-live days of Jimmy Carter and "The Fonz", buy this CD.

I first heard " More, More, More " in the fall of 1973. It immediately caught my ear with the mix of Brass, guitars and the delightful voice of Andrea. The tracks on the album , all move with the disco beat of that era. It is " Music that makes you want to move! "
