Biography

Billy Boy Arnold is back. With his 1992 Alligator Records debut, BACK WHERE I BELONG, Arnold firmly reestablished himself as one of the foremost practitioners of classic Chicago blues. His wailing harmonica playing and soulful vocals are a perfect match for his streetwise songwriting. The combination of Delta-influenced blues with a more urban sophistication not only defines Arnold's sound, but… Read more in Amazon's Billy Boy Arnold Store

What can you say about a CD/LP with Billy Boy Arnold on vocals/harp, backed up by Lafayette Leake on piano, plus Mighty Joe Young on lead guitar? "School Time" is one of the best blues cuts of all time, end of story...one of my all-time favorite blues lp/cds...

3.0 out of 5 stars His Best Stuff Is His More Rcent Stuff!, May 29, 2002

This review is from: More Blues on the Southside (Audio CD)
More Blues On The South Side was recorded in Chicago on December 30, 1963. The disc features the vocals and harp of a very young Billy Boy Arnold and some interesting guitar work by an equally young Mighty Joe Young. While the recording is 40 years old, I must say that the recording is remarkably clean from a technical perspective. The music contained on the disc is probably typical of that played in Chicago in the early 60's and is somewhat reminiscent of Bo Diddley or even a young Junior Wells. While there are some interesting moments on the disc, it is clear that this is a guy that got better, much better, with age.
