Yup, More Blues to Jam With,

This review is from: More Blues Jam Trax (Paperback)
If you liked the first Blues Jamtrax book and cd, you will likely enjoy this one as well. I think that this one is perhaps slightly more advanced, but still well within the reach of a dedicated beginner. This book and cd are exactly what they claim to be--jam tracks. They are not method books or references, they simply provide you with one of the easiest ways I have found to practice (and build chops) and have some fun at it. The chord progressions are basic but provide a little more variety than the first Jam Trax. They give you "tips" and this Jam Trax actually gives you a little more information than the first. It discusses and shows you some simple double stops, turnarounds, etc. They don't claim to teach you to play blues guitar or how to develop your own licks. They just provide backing tracks and tips for you to practice with. It won't take long before you begin to learn what sounds right, using the scales and patterns provided. The tracks are in a variety of keys and different tempos. Some are slow and mellow blues others are fast and upbeat. You need a basic understanding of your guitar and some concept of scales. You will also need some basic chord knowlege and basic scale playing dexterity. This book/cd should be considered supplementary tools to your current method books or personal instruction. As I said, that is exactly what the title and cover advertise it to be... More JAM TRAX -- something to use to practice. However, for the beginner to early intermediate player, these are really a lot of fun and easy to pick up on. It is money that will be very well spent. As long as you don't expect them to be more than a practice tool, you will be delighted! Also, don't expect to hear Stevie Ray providing you with backing, this is really pretty simple stuff. That is exactly what I need at this point. However, if you are an advanced player, looking for a challenge, pass this one by. It is not going to be complex enough and you will become bored quickly. I got exactly what I expected out of it. I own two other Jam Trax books for Blues, one for Jazz, and one for Rock. I will not get as much use out of the "Rock" one as the rest but it is still worth every penny. You can never learn about playing too many genres. The Jazz one is very good as well, providing jazz backing in every flavour I could want...blues, Latin, swing... This is really good practice material. Buy one in your favourite genre and you will likely agree.

Exactly as titled! Backing tracks to play over... nicely done with a great booklet explaining suggestion as to which parts of the scales to use with each track and progressions through the track... You will learn from this book and even enjoy just playing to the songs if you already think you got your scales down pat...covers a variety of beats per minute and scales, great improvisation tool. Also includes the chords so you can eventually just team up with friends and play the whole song without the backing tracks.. I now own six from this series and they all are very well done and worth every penny.

excellent practice tool and perfect for learning lead improv. Could be better if there were more suggestions for lead licks (with tab) to help beginners get the creative juices flowing but all in all a great tool and alot of fun to play with.

Great to practice soloing to,
This review is from: More Blues Jam Trax (Paperback)
I've bought three of the JamTrax book/CD's. They are great for me to practice with. The books give the basic chord layout and scales to use when soloing. Really nice to have handy when you have 5-10 minutes to kill and want to see what phrasing you can come up with. Just pick a track and have at it!

Just playing with the guys,
This review is from: More Blues Jam Trax (Paperback)
Well, I've been playing for about 40 years ... did so on full time in the first 10 years ... then I've been on-off (more off than on) for the last 30 ...Let me tell you about the enclosed CD of this product ... it's studio quality ... So if you close your eyes, it's just like playing with the guys (even better because they are always willing to redo the same song again and again) ... this product is great for practice and keeping up your guitar skills. Moreso .. just plain fun ! I've bought all of the Blues collection of Jam Trax, 4 titles, i.e.: Chicago Blues, Blues, More Blues, Rock. I will buy any other title that Jam Trax comes up with in the future. My very best regards to Ralph Agresta and friends. |
