Book Description

Men look up to the guys who can take a hit and keep going. We respect the fighter who picks himself up off the canvas after a knock-out punch and hangs in until the final bell. The quarterback who gets blindsided but doesn't fumble the ball earns our approval. Physical toughness like this is admirable, but it takes more than guts to become the men God made us to be, especially when the struggles we face are personal and close to the heart.

The difficulty of emotional pain and spiritual setbacks is of a much different sort than any physical challenge. Many of us men are not comfortable or well-equipped to grapple with them. Tony Evans gives us the kind of advice and inspiration we need to battle on through the most difficult circumstances.

Drawing from the lives of Moses, David, Joseph, Jonah, and other biblical men who faced the worst, Evans pulls men out of their brokenness and declares, "No more!" No more falling short of being the man God desires you to be for any reason. Evans shows that the struggles faced yesterday and today are the very same tools God is using to make us better men for tomorrow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Time to make a difference January 3, 2002
By Harvey
Format:Hardcover
Heard any of these lately:
"It's too late."
"I don't have time."
"It's her fault."
"I don't think it's worth it."
"I own it."
"I can't help myself."
Excuses, excuses, that somewhere along the way, we have used them. It is time that as men we stop making excuses and remove them from our vocabulary. It seems that when we are confronted with something we don't like or someone points out the real truth about us our response is an excuse, we don't accept the blame because we are men. But in reality because we are men we should accept the responsibility of our past, present and future actions.
Author Tony Evans says all the excuses in the world don't change the fact that God has given men certain responsibilities in the home, church, and community, and the only way they can fulfill them is to stop rationalizing and turn to God for what they need.
Nearly every excuse a man can utter about something he addresses each of them throughout the 18 chapters. Evans pretty much hits them all on the head with chapters on feeling worthless, allowing for immorality, clock-punching, playing the lone ranger, business as usual, etc.
In addition to being inclusive on the subject, Evans keeps the tone and vocabulary that have made him a popular speaker for Promise Keeper events and on a daily radio program broadcast worldwide from Dallas where he serves as senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship. He also speaks regularly at crusades, conventions, and Bible conferences around the globe. He doesn't care what race or nationality a man may be, what he cares about are the issues that affect every man.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read December 16, 1999
Format:Hardcover
This book truly takes God's calling of spiritual leadership and integrity of manhood to the level that it needs to be! T.Evans gets a slow start but gets up to speed as stays there as he takes you "to the hoop" with biblical examples and practical applications of changing your life for God and your family. From dealing with the past and bad examples to lust and homosexuality, this book keep me wanting to read more that my men's group had scheduled for that week :-). If you are a man, you must read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars the Book That Is Getting Rave Reviews December 3, 1999
Format:Hardcover
Everytime I sit down on the train or ride the bus someone is always looking at the front cover and asking me how the book is or is it a good book. I can bareley read a page before I get tapped on the shoulder and start talking about the book. Today I must have talked to 10 people before I got thru five pages. No More Excuses is a very inspiring book. From No More Hiding Behind The Past to No More Dabbling In Defiance, I wiil be like the Flying Prophet and pass the book on to as many men that i possibly can. Keep on writing these blessed books so that I can keep on reading them. May the Lord be with you

This book clearly helped me to identify that there are 'No More Excuses' for not becoming the man God made me to be. Dr. Evans puts the focus on being a man of God in one book which is biblically based. There are times we want to find the specifics of being a man of God and do not know every situation, every person, every reference of a man who looked to and depended on God to become more like Jesus. I thank God for this book, which has helped me to focus on looking to God to use me to become who He would have me to be. I have bought and given this book to 3 other men, who are believers in Christ.

5.0 out of 5 stars Becoming the man God wants me to be October 5, 1997
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
This is absolutely the best book that I have ever read that clearly, and often humorously, puts into perspective the excuses that we often use to block our relationship with God. From sexual immorality to not spending quality time with our children, Dr.Evans in an easily understood format using Bibical figures as examples outlines the dangers of using excuses for our sins.

5.0 out of 5 stars Right between the eyes April 23, 2010
Format:Paperback
I got this book thinking that I might learn a few things and I have to say, I have learned many things about what it truly means to be a man of GOD from Pastor Evans. He has help identify areas in my life that I need to work on and through the LORD I will be a better man for it. I can honestly say, this is a book I will keep around and read many more times especially when I feel like I am starting to make excuses for not being the man GOD made me to be. I highly recommend it for any man who has a real desire to be the man GOD made him to be.
