5.0 out of 5 stars It can change your life!
A great inspirational read! Tawni inspired me to quit 'waiting until I am thin' and start living in the moment. Over the last year I have lost fifty pounds and gone from walking a mile to running for six. My next goal is a half marathon. I NEVER thought that would be possible - I was 'too old' and 'too heavy'. What an incredible idea to be told that it didn't matter,...

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT ENOUGH MEAT
I looked forward to reading this book but was extremely disappointed with the content. I felt that it was just a rehash of many diet/exercise books I have read in the past. I have read Tawni's daily thoughts and found them very inspirational. I was looking for more of that inspiration in her book. I just didn't find it.

What an incredible idea to be told that it didn't matter, that all I needed was the determination to do it. Set a goal and work towards it , one baby step at a time, and you'll get there. What a joy it is to participate in life instead of just being a spectator. This book will inspire you to believe that you can do more than you ever thought you could. I still have some weight to lose, but I'm on my way with a new attitude toward fitness and myself. My whole life has changed in a dramatic way - yours can, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Taking charge - becoming a non-victim, April 23, 2000
By
This review is from: No More Excuses! Choose to be Fit, Healthy and Happy (Hardcover)
After completing Tawni's book, I realized her book can be used by thousands. Thousands who are, in their lives, victims. Victims who do not have the courage to take charge and change their lives for the better. Yes, Tawni writes about running and exercise, but those are avenues she chose to accomplish her goal of becoming a non-victim. Baby steps, as she talks about in her book, are the necessary tools to go forward in life. Baby step after baby step applied to all facets of life will soon add up to one large step. In her book, Tawni explains how to do this, how to deal with the frustrations along the way and how to reward oneself when reaching a short term goal. She is also very clear that this goal can be accomplished by no one except oneself. Self-help? No, she just presents the information in a way that one can sit back and think and believe........."I CAN do this. I DO believe in myself. And, most of all, it is OK if I take a while to reach my goal. At least I am going forward." As Tawni says in her book, "there is no finish line."

5.0 out of 5 stars FRESH/MOTIVATING INFORMATION, August 3, 2000

This book tells you exactly what will help you to reach your fitness goals because it is very clear and to the point. It talks about situations we all encounter in our quest for fitness and health. Tawni speaks so openly about her own struggles that I'm sure you can relate. Tawni is honest, warm, articulate and informative. What I liked about the book so much is that it is written by someone like US - not a doctor, dietician, nurse, etc. someone that is at my level when it comes to the weight loss situation. She instantly becomes your best friend. The best part is that it doesn't concentrate on the "d" (diet) word. If you're looking for something fresh and motivating - read the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book of hope --, April 17, 2000
By
This review is from: No More Excuses! Choose to be Fit, Healthy and Happy (Hardcover)
I loved this book because it not just talked about making lifestyle changes to lose weight and become fit, it showed me how to do it. Tawni Gomes' comments are very practical and personal (there are excerpts from her journal as she was struggling to find what works). She covers topics such as how to stay committed, and finding a pathway to fitness that matches who we are. There is the extra bonus of support available to help alleviate the aloneness that can be felt as we're trying to make new changes in our lives. This book is jam-packed with realistic advice and is very easy to read. I highly recommend it -- especially for anyone who may find it challenging to consistently follow through in their quest for healthier eating and fitness.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a woman!, April 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: No More Excuses! Choose to be Fit, Healthy and Happy (Hardcover)
Tawni's book may hit too close to home for some people but for anyone who has that nagging voice in the back of their head telling them they know they feel better when they take care of themselves (so why don't we do it all the time?)- in other words, people who are open to the idea of giving up the comfort of excuses for why they don't make taking care of themselves a priority...this is THE book! It's a must for women who want to hear it from someone who has been there. And unlike lots of books by beautiful women who talk about how to be fit and trim, Tawni really WAS fat and has the courage to show us pictures of her at that point in her life. Don't wait for the paperback (that's just another excuse)

5.0 out of 5 stars No More Excuses......This Book Is Great!, September 10, 2001

I really shouldn't review this book because I haven't finished it. But its hard to contain my enthusiasm because I'm such a fan of Tawni's anyway. I began receiving her daily e-mails about three years ago and have really come to depend on them as surely as I depend on my daily dose of McDonald's coffee. But unlike McDonald's Tawni is free and far more beneficial. Basic are her motivations like taking baby steps and keeping on the journey. Her book supports the evolution of this philosophy by her own life experiences and further enhances her beliefs for all generations of listeners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great advice and easy to follow, June 28, 2002
This review is from: No More Excuses! Choose to be Fit, Healthy and Happy (Hardcover)
As someone else said, the ideas are basic and, I believe, anyone can follow them. For the true beginner baby steps are essential. There are no diet gimmicks in this book. With a bit of a modification to your eating habits and a daily exercise program everyone can start to feel better. The tips on clothes and other essentials are VERY helpful, especially to the large size woman. Tawni is very motivating and I urge anyone who needs encouragement to subscribe to her daily emails at www.connectingconnectors.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect inspiration for changing your life, May 10, 2000
This review is from: No More Excuses! Choose to be Fit, Healthy and Happy (Hardcover)
As a work-at-home columnist and book author (most recently of "How Come? Planet Earth"), I've found it hard to stay motivated to exercise and eat healthfully (especially with the siren song of the refrigerator calling from downstairs!).

Joining Tawni's "Connectingconnectors" group was one of the best things I've ever done. The daily inspirational message from Tawni helps keep me putting one foot in front of another--run/walking, strength-training, and eating better.

Tawni says, "If I can do it, you can do it!" And that's what's so valuable about her book. Reading about her struggles--and her successes--you see that it's NOT a matter of waiting for motivation. That "will" (as in the force of will), is the faithful force that makes for real changes. And that baby steps, one after the next, will take us to where we want to get.

Highly recommended!

I have read many fitness books and this has been my favorite. I could not put it down. Not only does Gomes share her personal story of weight gain and loss, but she takes you step by step through the process to help you change your life as well. No magic diet pills here, just good common sense and finding the strength to stand up to all the excuses once and for all.

After years of being unhealthy, overweight, sluggish, or just unmotivated~ this is the book that may help bring you out of that funk. The best part of No More Excuses is that the author, Tawni, practiced (and continues to practice) what she preaches and has lost weight and become fit. Her advice and support through her book and her connectingconnectors website are such a great support system. You will love this book because it follows Tawni on her journey to lose weight and become healthy. All of the useful advice she was given or researched herself are disclosed in No More Excuses. From how to prevent blisters and chafing while running, to nutritional tips, this book is all-inclusive. It also gives you additional resources (books and websites) to gain knowledge about your new active lifestyle (i.e. great places to order larger exercise clothing & bras). I can't say enough good things about this book, so you'll just have to go buy it and see for yourself why No More excuses is not just a great motto, it's a way of life.
