Editorial Reviews

From AudioFile

A follow-up to the Audie Award-winning Famous Composers, this delightful production focuses on portraits of Handel, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Rachmaninov, and contemporary artist Paul Williams. Following the same successful formula as the first production, it provides interesting biographical facts about each composer, brief re-enactments from their lives, and pieces of important works. The pleasantly voiced Marin Alsop once again acts as musical tour guide, giving historical context and sharing engaging bits of information (did you know that Handels father didnt want him to be a musician or that Rachmaninov had enormous octave-scaling hands?) while also calling our attention to interesting, illustrative moments in the music. Though clearly designed for children, this engaging audio experience is educational for a wide audience. J.C.G. Format: Audio CD
It's really enjoyable work by Darren Henley and beautifully narrated by conductor Marin Alsop. Lots of information. Great amount of music. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who is interested in classical music and wants to educate their kids.
It consists of 2 CD's.
Thanks to NAXOS, Darren and Marin for their work, it is a great audiobook and an asset to any classical collection!

I hoped it would be just a story which I could let younger girls (5 - 8 years) listen to as well. Unfortunately too much information for them to absorb.
