Book Description

March 23, 2006 1 and up
Welcome back to the weird and hilarious world of Flanimals! In this second field guide starring these unique creatures, find the answers to your most pressing Flanimal questions: Where do Flanimals come from? What does the Dweezle Muzzbug’s behavior teach us about wishing? Are all Flanimals destined for fraught adulthoods? And who’s the maddest ripperflan of them all?

The very clever and very cheeky Ricky Gervais shows us that the Flanimals’ struggle for survival is not so different from humankind’s.They too are born into a wild world, acquire bizarre traits and exhibit questionable behavior. Adults and kids will laugh aloud to see Mernimblers, Scrabs and Dweezle Muzzbugs all compete in the game of "survival of the fittest!"

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3-5–British comedian Gervais uses a field-guide approach in this second book about the bumpy, lumpy fanciful creatures first described in Flanimals (Putnam, 2005). Four short chapters discuss The Flanimal Kingdom, Flanimal Evolution, Flanatomy, and Flanimal Behavior. A longer chapter, Spotter's Guide, identifies 17 species, from the Skwunt to the Swog Monglet. All are illustrated with homely, cross-eyed cartoon figures, as in the first volume. The broad humor of the wordplay and the garish, impudent figures may be a quick draw for reluctant readers. The book strains at being clever, but some readers may like its brevity and silliness. It could also be used to encourage children to invent their own creatures.–Margaret Bush, Simmons College, Boston

As a huge fan of the first Flanimals book I've been waiting for "More Flanimals" with some trepidation. Were we just going to get the same book again with a different cover? The answer to this is a resounding "no". Gervais and Steen have taken us to another level in the world of the doomed but strangely adorable Flanimals. Some of the old favorites are there but we meet new creatures as well (the Mung Ungler being one of my favorites). But we also get treated to evolutionary charts, flanatomy, "Who's Hardest?", and the teasing tale of an adventurous baby Blunging. This is definitely a book for all ages - buy it for all the family!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A six-year-old who loves it, August 20, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: More Flanimals (Hardcover)
My six-year-old son loved the first Flanimals book, and couldn't wait for another one to come out. The second book far surpassed his (and my) expectations. It's delightful, silly, and well illustrated. My son has spent countless hours drawing his own Flanimals.

Now, we hear that a new Flanimals book is on its way. We can't wait.

Well, even if Grob does not exist, it's good to see that Ned Flanders is alive and well and living in Seattle.
