Legends that will live on,

This review is from: No More Greener Grasses (Audio CD)
This is my first real exposure to Grouch and Eligh, and I'm already kicking myself for ignoring the Living Legends crew for so long. Pure and simple, this album is fantastic. Grouch and Eligh possess a ridiculous amount of talent in the way of lyrics and delivery. One of the most alluring points about the lyrics are the fact that they aren't filled with an abundance of 10-cent words and battle rhymes. They speak out on real life issues. They compliment each other's flows beautifully, which plays off the production in an untouchable fashion. In turn, the lyrics sound fresher, and the lyrical topics are packed with original ideas.
The best way to describe some of these tracks is gorgeous. "Everafter" has a seriously addictive loop that blends perfectly with G & E's seamlessly unstoppable flows. "Just For You" featuring Basik MC & Bicasso, with guitar by David Goodlett boasts some pretty exciting head-nodding production. "Mr. President" has some interesting political commentary (obviously left-wing). I enjoy this lyric from the Grouch - "I don't want to wake up to a bomb in my backyard / Mr. President, quit talkin' for me / I shouldn't have to be 60 and flat broke / The way it set up ain't lookin' out for we". One of the most beautiful tracks on the album is the title track - "No More Greener Grass" featuring Pigeon John. DJ Epik's production is bumping and soulful, which compliments the addictive chorus. "Emotion" also remains a favorite. Overall, there isn't a wasted track in the bunch. To sum it up, the album is very accessible, contains addictive choruses and hooks, but still manages to keep that west coast underground feel. Everything here is far from abstract. Just real music and real lyrics from real artists.

elightened emcees from the west coast,
By eternal now "roejoerrer" (mankato) - See all my reviews

Check this out! Rappers who are elightened and intelligent that don't wear backpacks!!!! Amazing! West coast emcees Grouch and Eligh tear it up over pure west coast grooves and the whole time keep it in the realm of information, knowledge and good times. If your not familiar with Eligh, he is a very elightened and tight emcee who flows about everything from goblins to sitting by a lake meditating. All positive vibes on this album. The grouch is tight as well, seems a little more hardcore than Eligh, but they make a great team. Eligh has a somewhat avant garde flow that ranges from speedy to slow and the Grouch has a somewhat classic west coast flow. But don't expect lyrics involving gats, ho's and money, ice and cars, these lyrics are straight good times, contemplation and knowledge. Best track, Lake release, a song all about going to the lake to be isolated and meditating. The beats are a home made sounding, keyboard most likely. Both members of the Living Legends group, I personally feel that they are the best out of the group. Straight underground style and lyrics I can relate to. Worth the money, I recommend this album to anyone who loves tight hip hop with a west coast vibe.

Cory inspires so many people in so many different ways. His music can actually make an individual smarter by pickin apart each sentence. This album is one of his best. The collaboration between him and Eligh results in killer beats and true lyrics. This album is undescribeable from #1 all the way to #15.

G&E Brings The Heat Right,
By
This review is from: No More Greener Grasses (Audio CD)
This album is just plain sick. It's the next step in what will be the Legends dynasty. Eligh's production skills have really evolved with his mastery of the ASR-10, which he showed on Poltergiest, and most definatly on this album. His rhyme skills are no different as he dominates this album and shows that he can hang with the best, if not be the best himself. Simply put, Eligh is incredible on this album. Grouch, well what do ya say about him, he's the ringleader who's production will lead the Legends to the forefront in the very near future. If you don't already know about The Grouch this album will wake you up. This album is a must for hip hop fans. Peace

Get It. Now.,
This review is from: No More Greener Grasses (Audio CD)
This is one of those rare albums that comes along and is just a true work of art. I've been around a lot of hip-hop, from the mainstream to the deep underground, and Grouch and Eligh demonstrate a chemistry and ingenuity that is all too rare in today's musical climate. A few highlights:Track 3, Everafter, is an amazing rap with a killer beat and some of the smoothest vocals you've ever heard. Track 5, Mr. President, is a surprisingly intelligent and well framed swipe at our political priorities. It's more than the usual leftist whining, it is a well framed political critique. Listen to the chorus and figure out what he's saying, after a few times, you'll catch the double meaning. It's genius. Track 8, The Clap, is simply great. Just fun as hell. Track 13, Dr. No, is a funny and well executed attack on mainstream music. Get this album, there's nothing more to say about it. But trust me, after a few times through, you'll barely be able to stop talking about it.

Finally- a living legend cd with beats tht match the lyrics,
By
This review is from: No More Greener Grasses (Audio CD)
okay- true- i am a living legends fan. and yes- Eligh and grouch are my favorite legends. but don't think that the 5 stars are for nothing more than being a dedicated fan. look at the low one star rating i gave grouch for the "sound advice" cd.anyways- this cd is simply two words: hip hop. the beats are great- grouch deep lyrics combined with eligh's rapid - almost "outkast" sounding flow is simply the best ever. this is much better thatn the first release- and the first release is a classic!!!! i still wonder ....what would they sound like on a commercial hit- with dr.dre or timbaland producing...anyways- buy this album at amoeba's. cheaper there.

Independent, still truckin, and still spreading more seeds. Yo this is Grouch and Eligh, Living Legend coeds, and dominating beasts of rhymes. This cd shows us whats up with 2003 and the current life and times of grouch and eligh. Throwing their guts on this record and even showing signs of political knowledge, we see a new, and more mature grouch and eligh. Mang, independant label...support these OG's of hiphop and buy this frickin record what more do i need to say..Oh and yes the pigeon john song is mighty fresh :)

The Grouch & Eligh Innovate Hip-Hop to a New Level,
By Ill-Matters (Calgary) - See all my reviews

After hearing Eligh's "Poltergeist" and The Grouch's "Crusader for Justice" I was pumped to hear the new G&E album because of how well these emcees have been progressing. I was not dissapointed; "No More Greener Grasses" is one of the most amazing hip-hop releases ever! The poetic, insightful lyrics are thought provoking and inspirational. The production is the best yet from G&E, each track has its own mood along with a few familiar beats for all the Living Legends fans. Eligh is consistantly one of the fastest rappers around, but his verses are meaningful and at many times metaphorical ("Everafter" will blow you away.) The Grouch has outstanding presence on the mic and flows with confidence and positivity. Pick this album up... it's as simple as that. Living Legends for life!
