Having bought the first Herrschners blue ribbon afghan book, I decided despite the high price ($1 per afghan) to pick up this second one. The difference is that the publisher here is Leisure Arts. Tropical delight is a granny square embellished with a unique popcorn st, First snowfall has two snow motifs, Floral bouquet is granny type, Double wedding ring also in motifs is quite striking, Eve's coverlet done in squares, Harlequin is small squares joined tog while working them. Baby afghans include Rosebud which is knit, twinkle little star has diamond and triangle motifs, Baby brights done quickly in panels, Roses in the snow has basketweave center surrounded by 28 squares in a rose motif, Sail away is knit and has duplicate stitching. Shoots and ladders has seed st panels and 5-leaf squares (knit) in different colors. Sonoma has 3 different knit squares. Summer woods is knit with cable sts.Lilac fantasy knit with cables and textured sts. Children's section includes Bright blooms in crochet, Basketball in crochet (great for a boy's room). Coral kingdom in intarsia crochet, Far out has neon colors and also intarsia. Embroidered afghans include Desert warmth in Tunisian with added cross stitch. High plains and Trip around the sunflower also as previous one and Tunisian hearts in knit and purl Tunisian with color changes. Skill level varies on these afghans with some being for the very advanced and others aimed at any level of ability. As in the first book, all the designs are by non-professionals. Recommended for people like me who enjoy collecting afghan books but due to price not a first purchase.

The afghan on the front didn't absolutely grab me when I first saw it, but considering that I'd bought the Herrschner's Blue-Ribbon Afghans (Crochet Treasury) book a while before and loved the patterns in there, I thought I'd take the chance - and I'm ecstatic that I did!

This book has some exquisite patterns with a good mix of knitted and crocheted afghans. There are several cross-stitched patterns, baby blankets, and some remarkable afghans for those who are interested in doilies, but could never figure out how to really integrate them into afghans (me!).

The book is a bit more expensive - and I agree with the first reviewer, there are definitely afghans which require more experience in there - so maybe it's not your first book, but if you're an avid crocheter/knitter who's looking for newer styles (I hate the dated orange and brown looks - sorry :) ), then this is a book that you may want to pick up.

I have contacted Herrschners twice to try to get corrections on a previous pattern. Each time all I received was a generated letter stating they would be contacting me soon. It's been months and I've heard nothing. I will try again but I am doubtful about getting a response. If that occurs I will update my rating. A pattern book isn't much good if the instructions have errors.

A bit pricey, but the unique afghans were worth it. I have yet to one in the book worked up
