The true meaning of manga,
By
This review is from: More How To Draw Manga Volume 4: Mastering Bishoujo Characters (Paperback)
Okay, this is going to be my first review on Amazon. I'm from The Netherlands, so my English is not perfect. Please forgive me if there are some weird words or sentences in this review, I'm only 15... ;)
I'm a huge fan of manga and anime, not only on TV or in video games, but I also like drawing it myself. I've collected several books about drawing manga, and More How To Draw Manga: Mastering Bishoujo Characters is one of them. Well, what can I say about this book... It's MARVELOUS!! It is such a great book! As I said before, I've got several books about drawing manga, and this is without a doubt the best one! It teaches you how you can perfectly draw different bishoujo characters. Their traits of character, what kind of clothes they wear, how they like to do their hear... Eyes, noses, mouths, cheeks... This book has got it all. It really helped me to get acquainted with all kinds of girls and how I could draw them with their characteristic marks. I'd definitely recommend this book to all of you!! Here's a description of the contents of this book: Chapter 1: Twelve Character Types - Using Impressions to Portray the Twelve Character Types - Key Points in Distinguishing the Twelve Character Types - Twelve Character Types (such as the shy girl, the cutie, the bully, the imp, the princess, the bad girl and more) - Height Distinctions - Selecting Costumes That Match The Character - Uniform Portrayal - Tricks to Designing Uniforms - Techniques in Character Image Design Chapter 2: Making the Figure Move - The fundamentals of Character Movements - Walking Scenes - Drawing Characters Entering through Doors - Popular Relaxed, Conversational Poses - Hand Gestures in Conversation Scenes - Running, Leaping, Falling: Three basic Action Poses - Figures and Cars There are a lot of descriptions in this book, but even more beautiful art work. The drawings are absolutely beautiful. This is, in my opinion, the true meaning of manga!! Don't hesitate, just buy it: you won't regret it! Or, as we say in The Netherlands: Mensen, dit boek is echt te gek! Als je van manga tekenen houdt, is dit boek echt een must! Echt kopen dan, daar zul je echt geen spijt van krijgen! Kimmy

Very nice and detailed,
This review is from: More How To Draw Manga Volume 4: Mastering Bishoujo Characters (Paperback)
First off, I just want to say that you must have some experince in drawing manga already, as this book does not start from the basics; it assumes you have a good foundation in anatomy, basically. But for those who are already into drawing, this book is invaluable. It covers the 12 different types of personalities of bishoujo ("pretty girl" in Japanese) in manga, from the self-confident Strong Girl to the refined, delicate Princess. It essntially shows the reader how to imbue personality and emotion into the character (to avoid the "they all have the same face!" syndrome) by showing how to alter facial features (e.g. longer, thinner faces project a more mature, older look), clothing styles, posture, etc. If you want to improve on your skills in drawing bishoujo, definitely get this book...

Excellent, Excellent!!,
This review is from: More How To Draw Manga Volume 4: Mastering Bishoujo Characters (Paperback)
Well, this is one of my most favorite How to draw Manga books I ever bought. At first, I though it would be inapropriate just by looking at the cover... But, I was wrong. This book shows how to draw girls by their personality, like strong girls, vulnerable girls, straight-laced girls, cute girls, and even more! There's 12 personalities in all, which is a good variety. Also, it shows how to make different types of clothing, depending on what personality the girl you want to draw has. There's many more stuff in this book, but I haven't really explored\read them yet.If you have problems that all your characters look the same in some way, and\or you want to show their personalities even more? This book is perfect!! I gave it 5 stars for a good reason. If you have a list of what to buy here at amazon, give this book a try. There's a really good chance that you won't be dissapointed!

One of the best "How To Draw Manga" books,
This review is from: More How To Draw Manga Volume 4: Mastering Bishoujo Characters (Paperback)
A lot of the "How To Draw Manga" series really aren't that great. But this one, they actually did a very good job with. I like the first half of the book and how it explaining the twelve personalities. The best part about is you can almost design and give an identity to a unique character of your own. Ranging from punctual and outgoing to quite and conservative.
As for the second half, it almost has "fillers" after the twelve personalities. What I mean by fillers is that just stuff to fill the pages will. But something's are relatively useful, like school uniforms, character movement, relaxed poses, and hand gestures. What I did not find to be useful was entering and closing a door, drawing hair and eyes, and driving. I wish I could give this a five star, but I can't because they could have gone into better details of maybe the eyes and hair, or left out the closing of a door and driving. But still, this book is pretty good and I recommend this book for the intermediate to advanced artist

This book truly lives up to it's name, mastering bishoujo characters. For those of you having a little trouble with designing a unique character, then this book is definately for you! This book contains different personalities that you can give to your characters, the kinds of clothes that character would wear, and hair styles. It is full of poses that would be beneficial to you as well as some scenes of walking, jumping, and the way the body twists when it's doing a certain action. Another good quality this book has is girls waking in groups and sitting in groups. I think that is very helping if you are planning on drawing a manga with a school scene with a group of friends. This book really doesn't have any nudity, it does have the outline of the nude body, but nothing obscene. I would really recommend this book. A must buy!

I've just started experimenting with drawing and I find myself turning to this book every time I get my pencils out. This book has twelve personalities and characteristics for female manga characters. I find it a very useful resource and didn't expect to see step-by-step instructions as that was not mentioned anywhere and I have other books for learning the basics of drawing. If I have trouble duplicating something I just grab some tracing paper and play around with it until I figure it out.
There are a couple of shots with breasts but they aren't offensive or anything, just outline sketches so you know where everything is and can dress them appropriately. I figure if you don't want to see them you should probably stick with drawing male characters since they're inevitable with females. All-in-all, as a newbie, I found it to be a terrific help with creating my characters.

I have 13+ Manga drawing guides. When I am trying to make a particular personality trait (kindness, childishness, snobbery, ect.) show in the eyes, posture, build of the body - I always reach for this book above any of the others I have. I would say that it has become my favorite resource now that I have moved on from getting a body to look natural, believable, and to scale and am now working on creating characters with more personality to them.
All characters are female, and no drawings in this book are toss away drawings done in a few seconds like some other how to draw books will toss in.
