From Booklist

The continuation of the popular The Lipstick Chronicles (2003) returns to Allheart.com, a profitable online greeting card company where five smart, successful women are pursuing their careers. This installment focuses on three of them: Elyssa, Dana, and Carole. All are career oriented and find it very difficult to let themselves be truly open to a relationship for fear of having to give up what's important to them. Elyssa, the CEO, is trying to keep her personal relationship with one of her investors separate from their working relationship. Dana, who insists on things remaining superficial, finds herself drawn to a meditation guru in Sedona. The strongest tale involves Carole, Allheart's saleswoman, who is involved with a dedicated young senator. He wants commitment, but every time it looks like he is going to propose, she changes the subject. Then when they plan a getaway weekend in Quebec and he is detained, Carole meets a very suave and debonair gentleman. Together, these stories make up one fast-paced, contemporary ode to the dilemmas of modern women. Maria Hatton

More About the Author

Kathryn Shay is a lifelong writer. At fifteen, she penned her first 'romance,' a short story about a female newspaper reporter in New York City and her fight to make a name for herself in a world of male journalists - and with one hardheaded editor in particular. Looking back, Kathryn says she should have known then that writing was in her future. But as so often happens, fate sent her detouring down another path.

Fully intending to pursue her dream of big city lights and success in the literary world, Kathryn took every creative writing class available at the small private women's college she attended in upstate New York. Instead, other dreams took precedence. She met and subsequently married a wonderful guy who'd attended a neighboring school, then completed her practice teaching, a requirement for the education degree she never intended to use. But says Kathryn, "I fell in love with teaching the first day I was up in front of a class, and knew I was meant to do that."

Kathryn went on to build a successful career in the New York state school system, thoroughly enjoying her work with adolescents. But by the early 1990s, she'd again made room in her life for writing. It was then that she submitted her first manuscript to publishers and agents. Despite enduring two years of rejections, she persevered. And on a snowy December afternoon in 1994, Kathryn Shay sold her first book to Harlequin Superromance.

Since that first sale, Kathryn has written twenty-two books for Harlequin, ten mainstream contemporary romances for the Berkley Publishing Group, and two online novellas, which Berkley then published in traditional print format.

Kathryn has become known for her powerful characterizations - readers say they feel they know the people in her books - and her heart-wrenching, emotional writing (her favorite comments are that fans cried while reading her books or stayed up late to finish them). In testament to her skill, the author has had a one of her books serialized in the December 2003 COSMOPOLITAN magazine and has been quoted in PEOPLE and THE WALL STREET JOURNAL. She has won five RT BookClub Magazine Reviewers Choice Awards, three Holt Medallions, two Desert Quill Awards, the Golden Leaf Award, and several online accolades.

Even in light of her writing success, that initial love of teaching never wavered for Kathryn. She finished out her teaching career in 2004, retiring from the same school where her career began. These days, she lives in upstate New York with her husband and two children. "My life is very full," she reports, "but very happy. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to pursue and achieve my dreams."

4.0 out of 5 stars three clever interactive novellas, April 29, 2004
"Touched for the Very First Time" by Emily Carmichael. Dana's negative attitude is driving the other employees at Georgetown's Allheart.com card company crazy so they decide that for them to have R&R they must intervene and ship the grouch to the Gardens of Oak Creek Conference Center and Resort. There she meets Kieran, a teacher guide at the resort. As they fall in love, will Dana seek long term or will she grumble her way back to DC following her typical one night stand?

"Nothing between Them" by Vivian Leiber. Following her divorce, Carole wonders if it is her or something wrong with the males of the species. However, that changes when she meets Mitch. Their relationship looks like the real thing, but their doubts might torpedo anything permanent in spite of the love flowing between them.

"Taking Care of Business" by Kathryn Shay. Joe is unhappy that Elyssa, CEO of Allheart, is spending time with designer Parker though she insists that this is business. As Joe's jealousy rises, Elyssa is tempted to have an affair with Parker, much more charismatic than her steady beau. Will she realize that Joe is the lasting thing while Parker is a shallow charmer?

These three interactive novellas are cleverly developed so that the characters who appear in all of them remain consistent regardless of who the author is. Each tale is fun to follow though the lead female shares a common trait of annihilating a loving relationship before they finally smell the coffee. Fans will appreciate this modern take on romance and the boardroom.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Chick Lit, January 24, 2007
I am so impressed with this book, I've ordered the first one! I loved the characters and the storyline. I thought each story was a wonderful variation on love and the pressures, considerations and feelings we have all felt in one relationship or another. And, while some of it was a little to neat, I've come to expect that with most chick lit books. These stories really felt like different threads of one story about slightly idealized, but fairly realistic life, love and friendships for modern working women.
