From the Author

More to Love is dedicated to every woman who has ever felt she was less, when she truly is more.

About the Author

Elizabeth considers herself extremely lucky to have grown up in a family where the children were not allowed to watch much TV. As a result, she spent endless happy hours sketching, coloring and making paper dolls. One of her favorite memories is spending long summer afternoons drawing the characters in comic books (and wishing for super powers, of course!) Elizabeth has spent much of her adult life teaching high school art while raising her sons as a single mom. And, like most women in America, Elizabeth has dealt with issues of body image, eating disorders, and self-esteem. The More to Love characters began appearing in her sketchbooks shortly after one of her beloved students died from complications related to anorexia. Originally from New Hampshire, Elizabeth currently lives in a 1906 farmhouse in NY State. Elizabeth is married with two sons, one stepson and two stepdaughters. When she is not illustrating or writing, she can be often be found chasing animals out of her flowerbeds.

More About the Author

I am a teacher, a mother, and an artist whose personal experiences
and scribblings in a journal have evolved into a book,
a blog and a belief that even one minute spent
hating our own bodies is a sin, a shame and a personal disaster.

I believe in health and happiness at all sizes.
I believe that we should love, respect and admire
all the amazing sizes, shapes, colors and ages that women come in.

I consider myself extremely lucky
to have grown up in a family where the children were not
allowed to watch much TV. Instead, I spent endless happy hours
coloring, making paper dolls, drawing the characters in comic books
and wishing for super powers.

Originally from New Hampshire,
I currently live in a 1906 farmhouse in NY State.
I am married with two sons, one step-son and two step-daughters.
When I am not drawing, painting, writing or teaching,
you might find me chasing animals out of my flowerbeds!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Illustrations!, March 2, 2009
This review is from: More to Love (Paperback)
Elizabeth Patch's charming illustrations show modern plus-size women dealing with every day situations with a positive attitude, and her writings condense complex feelings into short, memorable text(without getting all "New Age" or too sweet). It's hard to pick a favorite page, but I really love the illustration of a woman at the mall holding up a teeny tiny pair of jeans; the accompanying text is "SILLY QUESTION: Should I really hate myself because of the size of my jeans?" Or maybe its the QueenSize Queen on her throne or the "Dream On" Rocker girl, or the wildly costumed Apple & Pear shaped ladies...Her illustrations should do for big girls what "Maxine"did for crabby old ladies: give us a bunch of fun characters that we can relate to and love! I will keep this little book on my desk for whenever I am in a bad mood. I give it a 4 only because I wish it was longer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Happiness in print, March 1, 2009
This review is from: More to Love (Paperback)
More to Love by Elizabeth Patch is a book I think everyone should own. Most of my childhood, my teenage years, and my young adulthood I dealt with feelings of inferiority, low self-esteem, and a VERY negative self image - all because of how I looked. I always thought I was too fat, my nose was too big, my chest was too flat, I was too short, etc. I never knew how to be happy with myself and accept what I was given - until therapy - ha. Anyway, I wish I had this book to refer to when I was feeling down - it would've helped tremendously. The lessons taught in this book are what thousands of dollars of therapy did for me. This would've been a lot less expensive and a lot more fun - just look at the adorable illustrations, the bright, happy colors, and the self-affirming statements! Thank you, Elizabeth Patch, for making all of us who may never be on the cover of Vogue believe that we are beautiful and worthwhile just as we are!!
