Great for 3rd grade and up,

This one isn't a repeat of the first book in this series -- not at all! Instead it focuses more on creating small figures, toys and dolls, fairies and landscapes for a Seasonal Table. The projects are breathtaking, although very easy if you understand the basics of felting and winding wool. It also contains a short, but detailed section on dyeing wool using plants and other natural materials. Even if you don't dye your own wool, you'll appreciate the process. The hand-felted interactive play mats, complete with hidden spaces, are a completely new idea that children will enjoy using with their new felted animals and dolls. There are so many delightful ideas in this book, you and your children won't know where to start!

This is a fabulous book. My three-year-old daughter loves everything I've made out of this book. They are generally durable enough for light play - my daughter is pretty gentle. I enjoy doing these and it's really hours of fun for the kids to play with. Older kids would probably enjoy doing the projects too. They are relatively simple (with help from adults) and are pretty quick. I find finishing one of these dolls or figures extremely gratifying!

For caretakers of young children. Does not involve any kind of felting,

I assumed this book would be about felting, either wet felting or needle felting. It mentions neither, unfortunately. It is written for parents or caretakers of very young children who want to make some very simple projects involving wool roving. The projects are essentially tying a length of wool roving into a simple shape, much like the way you "make" a folded rabbit from a washcloth or a paper swan from a napkin. There is a short section (2 or 3 pages) on using natural dyes. The plants listed are not readily available in the US, just as an FYI.
Overall, this is a book that I think only someone who is looking for projects for kindegarteners could use.

It's a nice looking book w/interesting projects. I was going to return it because it has nothing to do with needle felting. However, I've decided to keep it b/c it has some great ideas; it also makes for a nice coffee table book.

Another excellent reference book for working with wool and needlefelting ~ well written with excellent pictures. It offers yet another technique for making wool people ~ I have not found one book only that answers most questions on art felting ~ this is true of most techniques books whether it is for the arts or crafts. Wonderful ideas!

This was a wonderfully visual book with good instruction on cleaning wool. However, I felt there needed to be more info on how to create each little creature with more step by step pictures for the process. All in all it was a delightful book with magical creatures.

A sweet book with lots of things for adults and children. I haven't made anything from the book yet, but it will be fun.

Let me start by saying that projects in this book are wonderful and inspiring. However for somebody like myself who never tried working with wool rowing before the directions are very generalized. For example in pipe-cleaner doll section it does not say what length pipe-cleaners should be, it just says to take 3 of them and bend into arms and legs (without mentioning attaching 2 of them together for legs, which is only barely seen in the picture). For a doll 6'' tall it says to make a ball of wool for the head with 4'' circumference, which obviously does not make sense, but it is repeated in another section as well, so I had to figure out that it should be no more than 1'' (turned out a little too big still). No explanation is given at all at some steps, for example for the clothes of a mother doll it just says to attach a braid at the bottom of the skirt (I would appreciate an explanation of how to connect the ends of the braid inconspicuously) and no directions are given on how to make a tight wool ball (may be it is obvious for somebody who has been working with wool for a while but I failed to make it tight). I could go on with the list of examples but I think my point is clear.
Nevertheless with some trial and error I managed to produce a very beautiful doll on my very first attempt, even my husband was impressed! Next on the list is a seasonal tree picture. I just wish the directions were more detailed but I found this to be a problem with most books about less popular crafts.
